These days a lot of folks have pets. They’re excellent for keeping you company, and studies have shown that folks with pets are more healthy than those without pets. Naturally once you have the pets you need to take excellent care of them. If you happen to have a dog, you are going to need to wear comfortable walking shoes if you take it anywhere.

One of the explanations why folks with dogs are healthier than those that do not have dogs is the incontrovertible fact that dogs need to be walked continually, usually once or more or two times a day. All that walking will be simpler to do if you’re cosy, which means wearing comfortable shoes when you take your dog out. This way you and your pet can get the exercise you need in order to remain healthy. You won’t be as almost convinced to just do a short walk till the dog does its business and then go back home.

Of course it’s not only the walks which make cushty shoes important. It occurs from time to time that your pet might escape from you, perhaps to follow after another dog or animal. This means that you’ll have to run after him to catch him, and that is actually hard to do if you are not wearing snug shoes. You do not need to need to stress about your dog getting lost or hurt, so it is critical to be in a position to catch him as soon as practicable.

Simply because you’ve got to wear cosy shoes though doesn’t suggest that you can’t look trendy. There are any amount of corporations that make comfortable shoes that are a bit more dressy. You do not have to go out in sneakers, you might wear some cute sandals and still be comfortable if you get them from one of the firms that concentrates on these sorts of shoes.  Even comfortable heels are available here.

Pets can be wonderful companions, but they can also need lots of work. I thought I would show the unfinished results as it it quite fun to see Splash figuring it all out. In my living room she is panting because in between the tricks she is getting to play with a balloon and run around the living room like a mad dog (this is her favorite reward in the world).

This is the third episode in the series of Barking. In this episode I will show you the beginning exercises on how to teach your dog not to bark on a walk. Stay tuned and Subscribe to see other exercises that are very useful for reactive dogs and dogs that are hyperactive.

All these exercises benefit ANY dog, not just fearful, reactive or aroused dogs. These same exercises are GREAT for dogs with little impulse control, the kind of dog that wants to pull towards everything on a walk.

When a dog becomes aroused or reactive, it is due to chemicals being released by the brain, effecting the dogs behavior. Not only does a dogs behavior change because of these chemicals and stress hormones, but their heart beat, respiration, and blood flow will change too. Jerking a dogs neck will not reduce these chemicals, instead it will INCREASE them.

Barking can be reinforcing, so the more a dog is allowed to bark the more likely they will continue barking in the future. When you and your dog are surprised on a walk and your dog starts to bark, simply say “Let’s Go” and move briskly in the opposite direction. You can use this cue whenever you change direction unexpectedly or need to move from an area that is causing your dog to be over their threshold.

Here are some tips:

1-when on a walk cross the street to set your dog up for success
2-If you have a very fearful or reactive dog, simply change the direction of your walk when you see something your dog wont be able to handle at this point in their training
3-Never feed the dog for looking at your treats
4-Use real meat or cheese for these exercises, the higher value the reinforcement the faster your dog will learn. If you use low level treats, your dog might not make any progress
5-You can use calming signals to help calm your dog on a walk. Yawning or sighing loudly when you see the distraction. You can also walk in an arc around the distraction rather than head on which is very unnatural for a dog to do.
6-If you are getting frustrated, better turn and go home immediately than take it out on the dog.
