This video is a how to on how to change your dogs emotional response to something they are frightened of. The example in the video is my dog Kiko who suddenly became fearful of crossing the kitchen floor. Common issues with dogs can be- shiny floors, stairs, man hole covers, grates, metal, wet grass, a crate they had a bad experience in… the list goes on. A lot of dogs will actually bite if their collar is grabbed when they are loose and fearful after having run away.

This video was inspired by the little Shiba Inu I caught this morning at the park after it had ran away.

The short exercises I will show you in this video explain how you can condition your dog to LOVE and feel relaxed and safe, when their collar is grabbed.

Even if your dog would never run away from you or you have a confident dog this is a great exercise to practice, incase of emergencies like a fire or flood or when your dog is hurt and could be skittish and acting abnormally.

This is actually also a great exercise to teach puppies to stop mouthing and biting when you are trying to put their leash on, or trying to handle them. There are many handling exercises to do with your dog, this is just one of them.

What is Dogmantics? Dogmantics is a new dog training show that airing here on youtube shortly. This is my dog training tip of the day. How to build calmness in your dog using their meal.

If you think in the terms that you are training your dog 100% of the time, every reinforcement you give your dog or the environment gives your dog, is building some behavior or emotional state. What behavior and emotional state are you building every time you put your dogs food bowl down. Are you building calmness or are you building arousal?

You have to feed your dog every day, you might as well capture the behaviors you like and use that meal to its fullest to create a happy calm and well adjusted companion.
