This is a 7 part series on how I introduced our Labor Day House Guest Blue (a 11 week old Border Collie) to my current family dog’s (Isabelle, Bandit & Twix).
The introductions took a few hours, but it was worth it as we had an amazing weekend together.
There are many ways to train dogs to get along, but I happen to think that my way is the best.
I reward calm behavior, introduce slowly, positively interrupt unwanted behaviors, and reward all behaviors that I like and want the dogs to repeat. It really is simple and does not take much time at all. It is sort of like teaching. If you start the year off right and train the students to do the procedures and teach them how things are done, then the entire school year runs smooth. Same with the dogs, if I teach them how I want them to behave by reinforcing good behaviors that I like, the inter-relationship between all the dogs is a positive one and everything runs smooth.
Being a full time teacher, I like to relate a lot of what I do with dogs to humans and visa versa. I am not saying that dogs are like humans, but when training and getting behaviors to be repeated, dogs and humans are very similar.
Have a great week!

http://www.sitmeanssit.com Do you live somewhere that it is really warm in the summer but you still need to train your dog and you don’t have a swimming pool to keep them cool? Try this! There are a million different variations of dog training that you can do from these little pools that only cost about 10 dollars.

http://www.sitmeanssit.com This video shows a fun way to do the ‘under’ command (using a chair) with a frisbee reward. I’m using a flimsy frisbee that is soft and that floats. I cannot throw a frisbee very well so I’ll never make it as a frisbee dog trainer obviously, but I do like using them a lot in my training.

It’s Super Bowl sunday on the morning of the Saints vs. Colts and I popped in our dog training class to watch a few of our customers as they enjoy their dogs being off-leash. Having both fun and controlled obedience gives them the ability to do more. http;//www.sitmeanssit.com

I have been working with Twix on many things, but I thought that I would videotape some of the agility things that we have been working on. He is so much fun to work with. I have a long long road ahead when it comes to agility, but he is really loving it and I love working with him, so it is a win win!
Have a great day!
