Chihuahua Training Concerns and Issues

The Chihuahua is a very little dog with a fiery personality to go with the tenacity. They make a good pet for the elderly, and moreover, will feel at home in both small condominiums and big homes. The dog breed is loyal and dedicated to their human companions and will feel more secure with a couple or a single elderly person, than with a family of small, active tots. Here are more concerns about owning chihuahuas, all concentrating on the chihuahua training:
Are Chis capable of dog sports such as agility?
Chis definitely make excellent dog-athletes. Examples of sports that Chis excel in are obedience, agility, tracking, and flyball. They may indeed be small but they would love to try out what their bigger counterparts can do.
Are Chihuahuas ideal dogs for the family?
Not so much. “Wawas” prefer bonding with one single person, rather than sticking close to a family. The dog is also territorial, and if you own one, get ready to be owned and “guarded”, for that matter! The dog will of course think of you as the the only one deserving of the title “dog owner,” but will find it a horrible and a totally illogical idea to share you with others, and so may want to flash its incisors to anyone or anything that gets close to you. But aside from such a distant possibility, the dog with Chihuahua training is a happy and alert companion to their lone master.
Do Chis make good pets?
Chis stretch the possibilities of pethood. Watch out for a dog without chihuahua training, for it will want to pee or poo anywhere it pleases, chew on things, shred your newspapers, bark too much, etc.
Can Chis be litter-trained?
They could. With Chihuahua training, chihuahuas have the chance of being good apartment or condo pets (and as long as the people in the other units can take the barking). When housetraining your dog, orient them to relieve themselves either outside, or on pee pads, or in a litter box. When the dog shows signs of going, just pick the dog up and bring it to its relief-spot. Reward it when it is successful. The dog will catch on soon enough.
Are Chis welcoming of training?
Most often not, for the reason that Wawas are simply smart. They may be difficult dogs, but that is because they are bright, good at manipulating doting owners and people to be at their beck and call, and will want to be stubborn if they can help it. It is a reality that in almost any dog breed, smart and easy to train do not lead to a good and quiet dog. To begin training, the dog needs to be convinced that what you are asking is in their best interest– certainly no small feat. The Chi is not for novice owners; those who make the mistake may end up only frustrated. You need to be dog savvy and dog smart to be able to have fun with a Chihuahua.
