Anyone thinking about buying a dog this Christmas should take the time to think about what exactly they’re letting themselves in for. It is unfortunate that there are so many dogs in the shelters, but this is often because people cant cope after they bought the dog as a Christmas present, thinking it would be ‘fun’ without realising the hard work that goes into owning a dog. The dogs that don’t even get taken to a shelter just end up on the streets and die. Pet lovers find this thought very hard to deal with, but unfortunately it is a sad reality.

It is important to remember that a dog is for life and not just for Christmas. There are boyfriends out there that will be buying their girlfriend a pet for Christmas, but you have to make sure the pet is going to have a long and happy life in the home. If you cant guarantee love, care and affection for your pet, its best not to buy it in the first place. The issue is that break-ups in the home are inevitable and the pet gets dragged into it and often associated with the person who bought it, so naturally they get viewed in a bad light. There are some people that will mistreat the dog and it can be rescued in very bad condition. It is sad that this happens, but pets should never be associated with the person that bought it. The pet is a family member in its own right.

In many respects, what we need is a more pro-active approach to dog health care, so that the dog doesn’t get sent to a shelter or end up on the streets. Learn about what the dog needs and how it needs affection just like everyone else in the family. Regular food, playtimes and walks will help to keep your dog happy and healthy. Spend some time with your dog and swot up on dog health care tips so that the chances of it ending up onto the streets are less likely, as you understand what it takes to care for your pooch. Lets stop the number of homeless, shelterless and mistreated dogs there are, and the first step is understanding basic dog health care so you know how to look after it. Don’t buy a pet at Christmas time, or any other time, unless dog health care really will be top of your priorities.

Here are the puppies playing together and getting a little rough on each other. Their mother goes a little crazy trying to figure out what to do with all the little noisy puppies running around. About mid-way through the video their daddy barks and they all stop and listen, barking back at him. I know the mother needs a good brushing, but it was a little tough keeping her brushed while she was raising her puppies.

Besides my Wife ANA who i love very much and is the love of my life, There is MAX, the best dog i ever had in my whole life. MAX meant everything to me, we did everythng together. MAX sadly died on December 7th 2009. I had Max for almost 4 years, he was 8 and a half years old. He died in my bed sleeping with me as he always did with me and ANA. Max had been sick that nite a little bit, throwing up, but nothing to make us think it was very serious. It was 9 or 10 pm when Max started being sick, we were going to take him to the Vet in the morning . The weird part was, max drank alot of water, and seemed not to be peeing at all when i took him for a walk around 10:30 pm as he normally did, but i just thought he didn’t have to go then. Then i took him out again an hour later, same thing.. The point here, is if any of you ever experience any problems, DONT WAIT, take your dog right away to a VET, i didnt know, but i know now (i learned the hard way). Like i said My baby Max was everything to me, and im Devistated by the loss of him, and think about him everyday, my wife is very sad is well. I think Max had something wrong with his Kidneys’s and may have had whats called “renal failure” and may have had Cancer as well. He was too young, although typically English Mastiffs only live to be normally 12-14 years Tops.. Max Uncle Brian, and Auntie ana, Love you and Miss you. We shall see you again baby. This Video is DEDICATED to you MAX. May he be in our Hearts and minds forever. And to any other dogs who have passed on, we love you as well. Anyone who is reading this, and wishes to leave any comments you may do so regarding your DOG, Healthy or Sick, but if you have anythng bad to say, your posting will be removed, so please be kind. So you’ve got a new dog and you’re wondering what to feed him. You’re torn between going down the raw meat diet or trying a commercial dog food brand. You want the best dog food for your pooch, so here is a helpful guide.

Dogs are omnivores which means they require meat, fibre, and other nutrients to stay healthy. Be careful not to treat every dog the same, as they all require different levels of fat and protein, just like humans do.

If you choose to feed your dog a commercial based diet, it is very important to choose the best dog food around. Look for products that have meat in them like turkey or chicken as his will do your dog good. Stay away from foods that list a grain as the number one ingredient or contain lots of preservatives.

Some pet owners avoid commercial products altogether and just feed their pets raw food. Typically, the raw food diet contains raw animal bones and offal, as well as eggs. Proponents of this diet claim that it keeps their dogs healthier than commercially prepared diets, but this isn’t always necessarily true.

Pros and Cons

If you opt for the best dog food brand, which will of course be a commercial name, it will contain all of the nutrients that a dog needs to grow and be healthy. Compare this to the raw meat diet and you’ll find that raw food can be costly and stressful to prepare each day.

Those advocates of commercial dog food firmly believe that a dog gets all the nutrients it needs from top dog food brands. They feel that people who feed raw food are depriving their dogs with essential nutrients.

People who feed their dogs raw food diets feel that nature intended for animals to eat their food raw and that cooking damages the chemical makeup of foods and that cooking the food actually damages an animal’s immune system.

The ongoing argument about which is best inevitably results in commercial food advocates stating that there is practically no difference between cooking normal human food to cooking that of an animal’s.

Of course, as the pet owner, it is very much up to you which you decide to do, and it could be that you feel your pet deserves nothing less than the best dog food. You should also consult your veterinarian for his recommendation on diet.

Chasing, whether it be cats, cars or even people, is something most dogs love to do. Dogs generally see this as something fun to do, and don’t mean any harm by it, but, the fact is, that by chasing they invoke fear in others and can cause unintentional accidents.

Allowing your dog to chase anything is an irresponsible thing to do. So, it is important that, as the dogs owner, you see it how others see it, as annoying and dangerous. Don’t worry though, it is something that can be corrected with a little time and effort.

Different breeds of dogs have a stronger instinct in chasing than other dogs but, whichever you breed you have, the behavior can’t be stopped by simply yelling at or hitting your dog.

Don’t let your dog be in situations that that make it easy for him to chase his favorite things. With dogs who regularly chase after things, this may mean having to keep it on a leash or within a fenced yard. Keep your dog and those in the surrounding area safe until you learnt to predict his behavior and you have him trained to obey your commands.

To prevent them from chasing an owner needs to understand his dogs cues. It is common for dogs to give some indication, such as a prolonged stare or a lifted leg, before they set off after something. Once you know what it is that your dog does, you can act before it does. You should be able to find this out fairly quickly as dogs are creatures of habit.

The obeying of basic commands is necessary for a dog to stop chasing. You need to teach your dog some basic commands to start with, such as sit down and come here. Once your dog understands these skills it will be easier to stop him from chasing.

So, lets now look at how to train a dog to do what you tell it to do. First you need to find something that the dog really likes, such as a toy or treat. Place your chosen item 10ft from the dog and wait for it to start approaching it. Then either command it to come or sit down. After it has done what you want, say okay and let it have the toy or treat.

After having done this with just you and your dog, ask a friend for their assistance. Your dog should be standing or sitting by you, then your friend should past waving a toy or treat in their hand. If it starts to chase then give the dog the command to either sit down or come. On obeying your command, give it the reward. Should it ignore you and continue to chase then be sure not to give it a reward, even if you feel sorry for it.

Patience is necessary, but, with a little persistence, this approach always works. Remain positive and determined and you should have the problem solved within a week.
