What is clicker training? Clicker training is a way of training animals in which desirable behavior is marked with a sound maker and then reinforced, making the behavior more likely to happen in the future. Who can use clicker training? People of all ages! What animals can be clicker trained? All animals, young or old. All species and breeds, small or large. Clicker training creates strong reliable behaviors, and is a great way of modifying behavior- solving shyness, reactivity and aggression. It is also a ethical way to bond with your companion animal as you train the animal to want to do what you want them to do, rather than physically or psychologically intimidating the animal to do what you want.

This is a video of me working on some ideas for a double dog routine with Splash and Tug. Splash is 2 years old and Tug is about 9-10 months. I have had Tug for 5 months now, and he is simply brilliant, and really shows how only using Positive reinforcement really WORKS! I do not use any form of positive punishment with my dogs. This video is a how to video on how to teach your dog to target an object with his front paws. This is not only a great game to teach your puppy or dog how to learn to learn, but it is the foundation for many behaviors and tricks. Tricks with this foundation include- wave, shake , high five, standing up, hands up, close the door, cop cop, say your prayers, descrimination, freestyle foot work and more.

Take care with large breed dogs or dogs who have sharp toe nails as you can get slapped. Perhaps teach shake down the line when you have more experience as a trainer so that your large dog doesnt learn to paw at you as their favorite behavior. The great thing about the technique that I am using is that the dog isnt learning to paw at your skin, but at an object, so you can get that on stimulus control before it is just your arm (for very large and powerful dog breeds). You can also click them fore being gentle before you switch to using just your hand for shake.

I thought I would show the unfinished results as it it quite fun to see Splash figuring it all out. In my living room she is panting because in between the tricks she is getting to play with a balloon and run around the living room like a mad dog (this is her favorite reward in the world).

Here is Splash and I improvising to the music of Avatar. We will be using this song for one of our routines. I am all over the place right now, so I thought posting this would give me a kick to get the routine down soon. I have gotten a bunch of ideas from just editing a couple days of practice sessions together.

I loved the movie Avatar. Mainly because of the extreme bond and respect of animals shown in the movie.

Ron Watson, an internationally renowned Frisbee master, was in San Diego doing a Frisbee seminar that I had the pleasure to attend. He generously accepted the offer to do a free youtube tutorial on some basic Frisbee foundations.

These exercises can be done with a dog even before they have been introduced to a Frisbee, and can also be used for cool tricks, or flashy Canine Freestyle moves as well!

I must say that my Frisbee throwing ability GREATLY improved with a little tutoring! And now Splash is not eating dirt every time that I throw! Thanks Ron!
