hello my name is chris .. i would just like to say thanks for your post and links.. not many people know much about and some not even heard of chowchows.. all i can rember from growing up is having chows in the house my mother has breed chows for around 20 years now .. she dont show them but she swears by them as the best family dog you can have .. yes there hard to train and can be very stubborn. our current chow name is .. miss dynamite mcmullagen .. i think thats the right way to spell it

What color chow chow do you have?
A puppy’s tongue not being blue does NOT necessarily mean that it’s a mix breed. It’s normal for puppies to be born with a pink spotted tongue and it later fills in, usually between 6 wks to 3 mos but sometimes as long as 1 yr. Colors of chow chows that are strongly pigmented, Black chows or Red chows, usually fill in much more quickly than the weaker pigmented colors, blue chows or cinnamon chows. Also, males tongue usually fill in faster than females.

maybe it’s a mixed chow because when i bred chow’s they were born with the purple toung and some had little pink spots but then after like 2weeks its fully purple

hope u can help me on this: i bought my chow when he is only a month and 3weeks old, now he is 3mons and his tounge is not completely dark blue color..isn’t that the trade marks of chow dogs?
but then i’ve noticed that slowly the color is spreading out, but very slowly..every month i noticed a new small spot of dark blue in his tounge..is that normal? is my chow a pure breed?..
