how old do my chihuahua puppies have to be before they can eat food?

this is my first time with raising puppies. i didn’t even know the mother was pregnant until a couple weeks before the birth, bc she was given to me. how old do the pups need to be before they can eat solid or soft food?
usually at 3 1/2 weeks you can start them on mash.

I started giving meat to my puppy since 3 1/2 months. I though I would need to wait more, but he was really asking for it, and he loved it, since then he eats it. We have done the same with other of our little family dogs, and have worked very well.

When they are 4 weeks you can introduce "puppy mush" which is dry puppy kibble mixed with water or puppy milk (DO NOT give them cow’s milk)
At 6 weeks they should be eating puppy kibble on their own with nothing mixed in.

Start weaning at 4 weeks old.(START, do not completely take her away from mom’s milk till 6-8 weeks) First you start with "puppy mash". Mix the dry kibble with warm water until its of a mushy consistency. Each day use a little less water until the pups are on completely dry kibble. It’s important to remember that small pups, especially chihuahuas need to stay with the mother a little longer than other breeds. Do not rehome them until they are at least 10 weeks old, 11 or 12 weeks is even better.

*~ATL Braves Baby Girl~* said it all perfect. Just wanted to add make sure the food soaks in the food for about 30 min so its all mush. I take a fork and mush it even more to make sure there are no hard lumps.
