That’s what puppy’s do. It’s better the he chews the training pads than your furniture. He’ll grow out of it.

My opinion on pee pads….not worth it. You are doubling your training work, and confusing the dog. Just train the dog right off the bat to do outside. If you catch him in the act of going potty in the house, discipline him by making a startling noise, then take him outside and praise him if he goes outside. If you don’t catch him in the act, don’t discipline him. He will learn (think) that he is getting in trouble for the act of going potty, rather than the where abouts of him going potty. Also, NEVER let him see you clean up his messes in the house. I would also recommend crate training, rather than leaving him with such a large space. If you don’t find any of this helping, consult a trainer to work with you.

Both my dogs destroyed the pads, they are a waste of money. Why isn’t he house trained at 4 months, if you can’t walk him enough hire a dog walker or see if anyone you know can take him out when you can’t. He should be walked every 2-3 hrs. Good Luck.

First off, hitting a dog is never a good form of punishment.

it doesn’t avoid bad behavior, it just causes other behavioral issues.

Negative reinforcement is known to have side effects sort of speak.

your best bet would be to get positive reinforcement training, Petsmart has good trainers and reasonable prices.

give him more playtime as destructive behavior could be cause by not being stimulated,

try Human pee pads, the ones for humans are more absorbing and harder to tear. Its what I used on my puppy.

Pee pads are a jumpstart to get them use to the out door smell (As they are laced with a pheramone that entices them to pee there, and has a grass smell.)

once you can get them use to doing their business outside, you don’t need the pads for anything more than accidents.

but if they smell the grass on the pads, they’ll think they are outside.

So I switched to human pee pads and he didn’t have hardly any accidents.

Also, keep outside play time and potty time separate.

he’ll be trained faster if you let him know potty time is potty time.
