Zid00001, Bullmastiffs and English Mastiffs were not used to guard against bear and wolves, bear and wolves were long gone out of England by the time Bullmastiffs were being bred. They were used by Gamekeepers to chase and hold down poachers, but not attack them. So they weren’t “bred big in England”. Big compared to what? American bred mastiffs? They were only being bred and developed in Britain!

zid00001, Bullmastiffs and English Mastiffs were not used to hunt bear and wolves, Bears and wolves were long gone out of England by the time Bullmastiffs were bred. They were used by gamekeepers to chase down poachers and hold them on the ground, but not attack them. So they didn’t “breed them big in England”, Americans werent even breeding them at that time. They are English breeds.

I agree this dog doesn’t look like a Bullmastiff however WHY is no one questioning the fact that this poor dog is chained (obviously for a long time since the ground around the tree is well worn down)???
It is SOOOO inhumane to chain a dog, please take your dog off the chain & bring him into the home with you, dogs should be family members NOT chained to a tree in your yard!!!!!

He was bred by some Californians that moved to Idaho. No he is not for fighting. he was not an accident, they’ve had another litter since Cougar and Odon.

Sorry mate, I got confused myself for a while !
If you can state that Caesar is definitely an English Mastiff, as I suspected, then Cougar would be a Bandog. People these days think a Bandog must have Pitbull blood in the mix but this is not so.
Having said this, the bulldog that went into the English Bull Mastiff, was almost exactly the same as your American Bulldog and the Mastiff part was from a dog exactly the same as Caesar.
Who bred him ? Was he an accident or are they dog fighters ?

Right, I’ve had a propper look at your vid’s and I know where I’m up to now.
Caesar certainly looks like an English Mastiff. The mum looks like an American Bulldog.
What fooled me was the title of “Bull Mastiff”.
The Bull mastiff, as developed in England 200yrs ago, is a recognised breed and the result of a Bandog breeding programme.
Cougar is a Bandog - this just means Mastiff cross really.

Okay, now I’m confused…so what do you think Cougar my dog is? I would really like to know. I’m just going by what I was told by the breeders we bought him from. His mom is an American Bulldog (yes Angel in my video) and the dad is and English Mastiff Ceasar in my other video.

I’ve just looked at your other vid’s and if that white dog was Caesars mother, I’m going to have to take back what I said.
It looks to me as if someone has gone on a Bandog breeding mission and this is what happens when dog breeds are mixed.
They take after one parent or the other.
The Bull mastiff that is a recognised breed, was developed 200yrs ago and now breeds true to type.
Caesars dad must have been an English though.
