That’s one theory, which is probably wrong. Yes they were used for night watchman in the 1800’s, but the Bandog has been around since about 1250-1300. Indeed, the Bandog is mentioned in a book written in 1570 by Johannes Caius. The original development of the breed is unknown.

@sparklerbombg You are right it is recognized as its own breed but it is exactly a mix of pit and mastiff. Check out MCKennels, their website shows pics of how the line was developed. Its ABPT and English Mastiff or APBT and a Neo Mastiff.
