THIS IS AWESOME! My favorite dog trainer and dog whisperer of all time has just released a free video online explaining how to eliminate 94% of all unwanted behavior in ANY dog. Her name is Krista Cantrell and I absolutely LOVE the way she teaches. Click on the video to watch. You'll be glad you did...

Originating from Yorkshire, England the Yorkshire Terrier is a popular dog in the ‘toy dog’ class. Standing only six to seven inches high, the terrier weighs in at approximately 7 pounds and has a life expectancy of between twelve and 15 years.

Created by the working man in the nineteenth century to trap rodents such as rats and mice the Yorkshire Terrier is believed to have ascended from Scotland and is genetically connected to other breeds such as the Skye Terrier, Manchester Terrier and Scottish Terrier although not the dogs that we see today. Over time the breed has been miniaturized and is a now a well known choice for a ladies companion as they fit nicely into a bag.

Born with tan and black coats which changes as they get older to steal blue and tan, in some countries, where it is permitted, their tails are docked to medium length. The Yorkshire Terriers fur is moderately long glossy, fine and silky in texture and many owners part the hair on their head so they can eat and see properly.

Although a wonderful breed of dog, buyers must be aware that Terriers are prone to many disorders. These include Hypoglycaemia, Patellar Luxation, Tracheal Collapse, Porto-Systemic Shunt and Retinal Dysphasia.

Hypoglycaemia is common amongst small breed puppies and is often misdiagnosed and even though it is easily treated if not treated it can be fatal.

Although not life threatening, Patellar Luxation is a problem caused by the knee cap slipping out of its groove and can cause mild pain if left unattended.

Brought on by obesity, age or sometimes inherited, Tracheal Collapse is the narrowing of the inner diameter of the trachea.

One of the most~Essentially the most} feared disorder by all Yorkie owners is Porto-Systemic Shunt which is an abnormal blood flow to the liver.

Typically present at birth, Retinal Dysphasia is an abnormal development in the retina. Although typically passed down, it can also be acquired from the result of an infection.

Overall although Yorkies may suffer from several disorders they can lead healthy and long lives and can be fantastic pets and companions for their owners.
