THIS IS AWESOME! My favorite dog trainer and dog whisperer of all time has just released a free video online explaining how to eliminate 94% of all unwanted behavior in ANY dog. Her name is Krista Cantrell and I absolutely LOVE the way she teaches. Click on the video to watch. You'll be glad you did...

People get dogs not only as pets but also for protection. Dog owners though should not be too complacent as the dog on guarding duty, like the owners, may also be sleeping soundly. Dogs are animals that eat well and sleep well. Did you know that dogs can sleep for more than 13 hours every day? This sleeping time can vary between different dog breeds but generally dogs are asleep for more than half of their lives.

Why do dogs have long sleeping hours? The sleeping habit of a dog is influenced by a number of factors. The amount of time spent sleeping would be influenced by the age, the personality as well as the activities of the dog. Because older dogs are less active, more time will be spent sleeping. Working dogs may want to sleep just like any other dog but because of the work they perform less time would be spent sleeping. Unlike their human friends that have to toss and turn before falling asleep, these four legged friends would be snoring instantly whenever an opportunity to sleep is presented.

Dogs may appear to be sleeping all the time but they also wake up more often. Both humans and dogs go through the same stages of sleep but if humans would sleep through the night without any interruptions, a dog’s sleep would have many breaks. A sleeping dog will be easily awakened by any unusual sound, movement and scent given the fact that these animals have very sensitive senses.

People that have nothing to do would sleep all day too. Dogs left at home all day with no toys and no other pets to play with will be bored and bored dogs would either sleep or be destructive. Naturally, dog owners would choose to have a dog that sleeps all day rather than have a one-dog demolition team.

The sleeping area has a significant influence on the sleeping habit of the dog. Outside dogs may want to sleep all day but due to the discomfort caused by snow, by the hot weather and even by rain, the pet may not have a restful sleep. Pampered dogs on the other hand, are not only allowed to live outside the house. These dogs are either provided with well padded comfortable beds if not allowed access to the master’s bed. These conditions will certainly motivate the dog to sleep.
