Why Do Dogs Sleep At Your Feet?
THIS IS AWESOME!
My favorite dog trainer and dog whisperer of all time has just released a free video online explaining how to eliminate 94% of all unwanted behavior in ANY dog.
Her name is Krista Cantrell and I absolutely LOVE the way she teaches.

Dogs are not branded as human’s best friends for nothing. Since domestication, dogs have become affectionate and compassionate friends of man. Time and time again dogs have proven the love and loyalty they have for their human friends. Dogs are highly valued thus they are provided with all imaginable comforts. Whatever care and affection a dog owner gives to the pet will be doubly reciprocated.
Dogs have always shown affection and loyalty and have always been protective of their human friends. Dogs would not mind any discomfort as long as they can be with their favorite people. Take for instance the dog’s tendency to sleep at the master’s feet. We know how dogs love to sleep. If given a chance, dogs will sleep the day away. People that love to sleep would invest on big, soft and comfortable beds. This is not so with dogs. Dogs would ignore their comfortable beds if your feet is available to lie and to sleep on if it means being close to their favorite friends.
The desire of the pet to be with you is expected as dogs are very affectionate animals. Dogs are in fact dubbed as Velcro pets as they would want to be as close to the master as possible. You have probably noticed your pet’s rather funny habit of leaning on your legs and of stealthily creeping to gain a place in your lap.
A dog that sleeps at the master’s feet will not be able to have a good rest. A dog though would be ready to have cricks in the neck as long as it can get close to the master. Dogs are very protective of its people and the habit of sleeping on the master’s feet can be the dog’s way of ensuring that the master will always be protected. This habit can also mean that the dog recognizes the owner as the leader of the pack. Being pack oriented, dogs would need to have a well defined hierarchy. Sleeping on the feet is the dog’s way of showing that it is submissive to the pack leader which is the master.
Discounting the discomfort the dog owner will feel, this habit is not really dangerous for both the master and the pet. Dog owners would normally let the dog sleep at their feet but what if the dog is a giant breed - would you have the heart to disturb the sleeping pet?
