Ways To Stop Jumping Through Border Collie Training
THIS IS AWESOME!
My favorite dog trainer and dog whisperer of all time has just released a free video online explaining how to eliminate 94% of all unwanted behavior in ANY dog.
Her name is Krista Cantrell and I absolutely LOVE the way she teaches.

More often, when people hear about training, border collie training in particular, what appears into mind is a medium-sized dog being taught how to execute tricks like rollover, high five, play dead and others. Nevertheless, training a dog is not only teaching to obey commands for the sake of amusement. Dog training pertains to having a well-behaved dog who reliably obeys commands at all times particularly when danger is at hand.
There are lots of dog behavior issues that could be curtailed with the help of dog training – one is jumping. Even if jumping can be interpreted as your pet’s way of showing his excitement for seeing you or for having you around, it should be eradicated completely for it can potentially cause further problems like injury and traumatic experience particularly to children.
To remedy this typical behavior, here are some steps you may want to take:
- Train him to reliably obey commands like sit or stay. Before your active border collie jump, give the command sit or stay and reward him after a few seconds of sitting or staying. If he moves and attempts to jump, turn and walk away from him. This should make him figure out that he gets rewards for sitting or staying but jumping will earn him no attention.
- As mentioned above, ignoring him for five to ten seconds is one method to address the problem. But if he still jump even if you are not giving him attention, walk away and leave the room without looking back.
- To discourage jumping, stand still, fold your arms and avoid speaking, giving vocal commands nor making eye-to-eye contact.
The rule of thumb to get your pet dog to end jumping is to get him to know that he gets good things for exhibiting good behavior like sitting but gets nothing for jumping. And be sure to be consistent with your border collie training approach in order to get your desired result.
