In order to completely groom your golden retriever, you’ll need to clean his ears and eyes, as well as regularly brush to coat and trim his nails when necessary. The whole grooming procedure requires lot of patience and time; if you love your pet dearly, then devoting an hour, twice weekly must not be a difficult task for you.

Grooming the Dog’s Coat

The first step in any grooming process is to ensure you brush your golden retriever’s coat regularly to help remove loose fur and any trapped dirt. Always use a good quality hairbrush and gently apply it on your dog’s coat. If you brush your dog’s coat daily, then you will prevent your dog from having excessive hair fall.

Always start brushing your golden retriever’s coat from the head and then slowly proceed towards the tail. The combing must include the hair present underneath the tail area, body, backside of legs, and ear areas.
Also, while combing, look for ticks and fleas and also carefully check for symptoms of skin infections. It’s important to maintain proper hygiene for you dog in order to avoid skin problems and allergies.

Bathing

In order to avoid ticks and fleas, it’s important to bathe your dog regularly.  To minimize shedding and reduce allergy risk, it’s important to bathe your dog correctly. It will also help to clean dirt, wipe out fleas and prevent the spread of skin infections.

Use mild hot water when bathing your dog, and use a proper dog shampoo. Bathing makes a dog feel rejuvenated and brings a shine to its coat.
