THIS IS AWESOME! My favorite dog trainer and dog whisperer of all time has just released a free video online explaining how to eliminate 94% of all unwanted behavior in ANY dog. Her name is Krista Cantrell and I absolutely LOVE the way she teaches. Click on the video to watch. You'll be glad you did...

You won’t disagree: It’s not nice when your dog whines. You don’t want to endure it. Neither would your neighbours. Thinking of it as child whining will point you to an effective solution. To stop dog whining, follow this advice:

1. Check why he’s whining. Different things can make dogs whine. Whining is a way of communication especially for the young. Your dog may either need some loving or is just frustrated. He could just be salivating over that cookie or just itching to go out and have fun. As you become more familiar with your dog’s routine, you will understand what he needs when he whines.

2.Be attentive. Dogs love attention and whine when they don’t get enough. Just as human mothers check on their babies, mother dogs try to see what’s bothering their young when puppies whine. It’s dog-speak so check if they’re starving or just needs to go outside. A word of caution: Don’t spoil your puppies. Dogs are likely to learn that whining gets them what they want quickly.

3.Decide when responding is in order. Following previous advice, you need to know when to take whining seriously or not. Given too little attention, your dog would become insecure; given too much, he becomes bossy. Pay attention when the whining is due to a basic need; ignore when it’s a want. Whining after a potty break is unnecessary; you can ignore that kind of whining. Don’t make eye contact with your dog.

Prevent It, Stop It.

As you become familiar with your pet’s quirks, you would understand the reasons and the instances they whine. To effectively resolve dog whining, prevention is a good way to begin. Even before you hear them whine, address the causes. Here’s some preventive tricks:

1. Afford your dog plenty of exercise and play. When their energies are bundled up, dogs are likely to whine more. Introduce your dog to other people and their pets, play catch with him - that would expend excess energy. After such a day, he’d be sleeping right away - without whining at all.

2. Make the changes gradual. For example, if you are on an extended break and have been spending most of the time around your dog, that won’t continue when your break is finished. Leave suddenly and your dog is going to miss you - and whine - a lot. They best way to do it is to gradually reduce bonding time with your dog as your holiday is nearing its end. Your dog learns to cope this way.
