THIS IS AWESOME! My favorite dog trainer and dog whisperer of all time has just released a free video online explaining how to eliminate 94% of all unwanted behavior in ANY dog. Her name is Krista Cantrell and I absolutely LOVE the way she teaches. Click on the video to watch. You'll be glad you did...

Roundworms are the most common type of worms in dogs in the UK. This is because of the fact that their lifecycle is virtually impossible to break entirely. Their lifecycle virtually guarantees that puppies are either born with an infestation or will get one almost immediately after birth. Because this type of worms in dogs is so common and because it can actually cause severe damage to human health, treatment is absolutely vital.

Roundworms can be caught by unborn puppies in the womb or passed from mother to puppy via milk. Contaminated faeces and soil will also infect a dog. The larvae of this type of worms in dogs is capable of migrating around the body, through the internal organs, being coughed up and swallowed and making a home in the intestines where it goes on to mature. The mature worms will then feed on the part digested contents of the intestines, later releasing further eggs, passed with the dog’s waste. Other larvae migrate into various tissues of the body where they lie dormant but still viable. They become active again when the host is pregnant and infect puppies. Worming treatments will not kill larvae. This means that it is virtually impossible to stop round worms in dogs.

The worst symptoms of infestation affect puppies, with sickness, diarrhoea and stunted growth being very common. Puppies will often have a distended abdomen. In serious cases roundworms will kill a puppy by entirely blocking its intestine.

There is no available treatment which can kill worm larvae and so puppies need frequent treatment to remove any infection. Also, adult dogs can easily pick up infestations because worm eggs can remain viable for a long time.

What is really concerning about this type of worms in dogs is its potential to harm human health as well. Worm larvae can damage human internal organs, and even lead to blindness. Even more worryingly, children are most vulnerable because they are often likely to put dirty hands in their mouths after touching contaminated soil.
