Does your dachshund need to learn how to keep from running after things?By nature, dachshunds like to run and chase things.Running after something can cause your dachshund to put itselve in harms way.  That is why proper dachshund training is important.

Fixing Bad Habits

When you first start training your dachshund not to chase things, you should use the leash a lot.A leash will help you control your dachshund’s actions.

You have to insure that your dachshund maintains its focus on you.  If your dachshund thinks that is the alpha dog, it will not pay attention to you.You show your dachshund that you are the alpha dog when you make it pay attention to me.It helps your dachshund to know what is should do also.

Now you also have to make certain that your dachshund knows how to walk on a leash.  Leash training lets your dachshund know that it needs to stay close to you.Having a leashed trained dachshund means it will not move until you do.  Not only will this help your dachshund stop chasing things, it will make walks much more enjoyable.

While you are training your dachshund, use distraction as a method to keep them from chasing after things.  If you since that they are about to chase after something, pull out a squeaky toy.This will get your dachshunds attention and make them forget about chasing something.

Try to use a walk bottle whenever you take your dachshund on walks. Stick to the Basics

I personally do not like to use shock collars or electric fences.They can be uneffective and hard on the animal.It is better to use the simple ways to make your dog stop running away then to use electronic methods.Use a professional dog trainer if your dog still runs after things.

Dachshund problems are common but can be fixed.You can train your dachshund the right way and prevent them from running off.
