THIS IS AWESOME! My favorite dog trainer and dog whisperer of all time has just released a free video online explaining how to eliminate 94% of all unwanted behavior in ANY dog. Her name is Krista Cantrell and I absolutely LOVE the way she teaches. Click on the video to watch. You'll be glad you did...

Why do I have to learn first aid? Learning first aid would not be necessary as there is a vet clinic in the neighborhood. Do you have the same viewpoint? When it comes to the health concerns of the pet, a vet consultation would certainly be the best bet. However, the vet may not always be around. Dog owners customarily take the pet wherever they go as these animals make wonderful companions. A dog owner’s competence in administering first aid would be very beneficial in emergency cases where no vet is available to help the pet. First aid know how can even save the life of the pet.

To save the pet’s life, a dog owner has to act fast. A dog owner’s instinct is to rush the pet to the vet’s but in a lot of serious cases, the pet dies before reaching the veterinary facility. Stabilizing the pet’s condition with first aid before rushing to the vet’s would give the dog a better chance to survive. Unfortunately, while some dog owners would not know if the pet needs emergency care, other dog owners would have no idea how to help the pet

There is not much difference with the methods of first aid for dogs and for humans. The only difference is that with pets, an owner has to be cautious as dogs in pain tend to be aggressive. Basic first aid can be easily learned from animal shelters. First aid methods can be learned for the vet. First aid can be learned as well from veterinary hospitals.

A dog owner can easily learn how to administer first aid to the pet by using the ABC approach. A stands for airways, B for breathing and C is for circulation. The first thing a dog owner should do is to make sure that no foreign object is blocking the airways and to check if the dog is breathing. If the heart is beating, it means that the blood is circulating. If the dog is not breathing, artificial respiration must be administered. Dogs usually lick minor wounds. Severe bleeding has to be stopped by applying pressure on the injured area.

Short of keeping the dog under lock and key, an owner cannot totally prevent accident that will endanger the life of the pet. Learning first aid methods is necessary for every pet owner given the fact that accidents that can threaten the life of the pet can never be prevented. With first aid knowledge, a well stocked first aid kit and competent skills, the owner can prevent the condition from worsening and save the life of the pet.
