THIS IS AWESOME! My favorite dog trainer and dog whisperer of all time has just released a free video online explaining how to eliminate 94% of all unwanted behavior in ANY dog. Her name is Krista Cantrell and I absolutely LOVE the way she teaches. Click on the video to watch. You'll be glad you did...

Dobermans have several traits that differentiate them from other dogs.  Training your dog is going to be much easier if you understand this.  These kinds of dogs are intelligent and trainable.  These types of dogs also can possess a mind of their own and can easily be aggressive.  They have unique postures and also instinctive drives that separate them from other dogs.  It’s crucial for all owners to learn this and identify the drives.  This well help lessen the chance for any sad situation.

The pack drive, flight drive, prey drive and fight drive are visible in many Dobermans.  Like the majority of other stuff, it is possible for dogs to possess traits from a number of categories.  The reason masters love their Dobermans is normally due to the pack drive.  They are focused on the master and will do anything they are able to to ensure they are happy and get attention[ from them].  Not every Dobermans possess a dominant pack drive however the ones that do are easy to train because they will respond well to minimal motivation.

It is a different story if you are trying to train a Doberman with a flight drive.  Dogs with a dominant flight drive were generally treated poorly by their first masters.  It’s also likely that the dog has just never been socialized with other dogs.  Fear is the standard response for these dogs when they are confronted with new surroundings and people.  These situations make them feel like they’ve got no other option but to be aggressive since afraid.

The fight drive present in many Dobermans ensures they are superb guard dogs.  They may be nice with other animals and people when everything is ok, but will never back off when it is necessary.  Although these types of Dobermans usually are not easy and simple to train to begin with, they do generally end up being the most obedient.

Lastly, many Dobermans have a dominant prey drive.  These are the dogs that will take a squeaky toy and rip it to shreds instead of enjoy it.  Dogs having a prey instinct will likely hide from you every day… waiting around… and hoping for an opening to come out and play.  Dobermans with high prey drives are frequently rougher and much more aggressive than they mean to be.  It is important to not permit jumping or biting no matter if the dog is playing.

Figuring out which kinds of instinctive drives your dog has can make training a bit easier.  Bear in mind:  similar to all dogs, Dobermans should always be trained with positive reinforcement.  They won’t react to negative screaming, etc.
