Barking is a dog thing and some breeds like hounds and guarding dogs are actually trained to bark. An excessively barking dog would get on the nerves of people even those considered to be dog lovers. Among the not so pleasant behaviors of dogs, excessive barking is the one that concerns most dog owners. Because dogs are well loved, an owner may be tolerant of the noise created by the pet but this may not be true with other people. What can you do to stop the barking of the neighbor’s dog that keeps you awake the whole night?

There is nothing much you can do to stop the barking of a dog that is not yours. Hurting or killing the dog would not be a good idea as aside from a legal suit you may need to pay the neighbor an amount too steep for comfort. Something has to be done as you also have the right to have a decent night’s sleep. Complaining about the noisy dog would never be easy and pleasant as you need to maintain good relationship with the neighbor that will be next door for years.

Start with a gentle approach by talking to the neighbor about the excessive barking of the dog that keeps you awake all night. You can air your complaints but be sure to keep the neighbor as a friend and not an enemy. Talking in a high handed manner will antagonize and make the neighbor defensive. Log the times when you were disturbed by the dog and the time when you made the neighbor aware of your problem. These records will be needed if you decide to take the problem to the authorities.

If you have the money to spend and you want to avoid an altercation with the neighbor, you can go hi-tech and solve the concern by using an ultra sonic devices. Excessively barking dog are usually those that are kept outdoors. The device that you can set up in your own yard will emit a shrill sound every time the dog barks. The squealing sound would be irritating to the dog thus it would altogether stop barking

If the neighbor has ignored your complaints and the ultrasonic barking device failed to address the concern, you still have another option. Your neighbor has the right to own a dog but you also have the right to live in a peaceful environment. You can go to the police and explain the problem or you can pay the local animal control a visit.
