It’s important to be sure you know how to stop dog biting. You really don’t want a dog biting you or your kids and you certainly don’t want him to bite a guest at your home. It doesn’t matter if your dog is a young puppy, an older dog you just adopted or even a family pet you’ve had for several years, if the dog has a biting probably you need to stop your dog from biting as soon as possible.
If you don’t teach your dog to stop biting you may run into a situation where it bites a guess or a stranger, when this happens there’s a good chance that your dog will have to be put down. That is why you must ensure that you educate yourself in learning how to stop dog biting.
Here are a number of tips that can help you so keep your dog from biting.
There are a variety of training methods you can try to help you stop your dog from biting, and each one is effective in its own way. The first method to try is giving a chew toy to your dog. That seems like an awfully simple fix, doesn’t it? All too often dog owners just don’t see how easy it can be to avoid a big problem. It’s natural for a dog to chew, so if he doesn’t have an approved item to work on, he’s going to bite and nip other things and possibly even people.
If your dog is still a puppy you definitely want to begin its training early and as soon as you can. Of course, we don’t always get a dog as a puppy, so if you get an adult dog you can’t go back a and do puppy training with him. Still, you need to start your training as soon as possible and not wait at all if you don’t have to. The earlier age you can begin to train your dog the better, however, and the easier it will be for your dog to learn what behavior is expected of it.
Train your dog that biting is wrong and is hurtful. If your puppy bites you need to tell her sharply “No!” or exclaim “Ouch!” or even try to speak her language and yelp as a dog would if someone hurt her. A yelp is exactly what your dog would do if another dog bit him too roughly while romping about. This will show him that he has bitten too hard, and it will probably result in his being gentler if it should happen again.
Now, if your puppy doesn’t respond to your reaction as you’d hoped and ends up biting again repeat your exclamation and leave the room for a while. This way your puppy will understand that if she bites her playmate will leave her. Again, you’re doing the same thing that a canine playmate would do if played with too roughly and bitten too hard.
These tips should help you to get the well behaved dog you’ve always wanted and make sure you can stop dog biting if you need too.
