If you are a dog owner you have certainly smelled the less than pleasant odor of the pet. Dog owners exposed to the unique smell of the dog would know that there is a reason for the somewhat derogatory “you smell like a dog” phrase. Dog owners have to tolerate this natural dog smell as it cannot be removed. The unpleasant smell of the dog is one of the concerns of pet owner. But wouldn’t you think that living with a pet that smells would just be a fair trade off for all the perks you get from owning a dog?
Dogs are highly valued as these loyal pets also provide the owners with affection and empathy. A pet dog can listen to your troubles and would provide you with unconditional love. But how can you hug a pet if the abhorrent smell would linger in your clothes? Don’t fret - you can still hug and kiss your pet as there are ways to get rid of the dog’s unpleasant odor.
Filth is one of the reasons why the dog is smelly. It is not surprising for dog to smell because these animals love rolling in rotten things, wallowing in smelly ponds and raiding trash cans in search of spoiled food. A very dirty and smelly dog would need to be bathed to remove the stench. Warm water and shampoos formulated for pets must be used.
Make sure that the soap or the shampoo is thoroughly rinsed before drying the coat with a towel or a hair dryer. A coat that remains damp would be a good place for smell causing bacteria to thrive. Dog owners would always hear about the recommendation of dog experts not to bathe the dog frequently as it removes the natural oils and cause skin problems that give the dog an abhorrent smell. To get rid of the dog smell that can develop in between bathing, you can use pet powders that will give the pet sweet fresh smell.
The horrible smell can be due to dried up feces in the anal area or other smelly object that get stuck in the fur. Regular grooming is one good way of removing dog odor. Brush the coat regularly and trim the hair on the dog’s anal area. A dog owner will find it difficult to get rid of the dog smell that is associated with medical concerns. Ear infections, bad breath, impacted anal glands and skin infections can be the reasons why the dog is stinky.
