THIS IS AWESOME! My favorite dog trainer and dog whisperer of all time has just released a free video online explaining how to eliminate 94% of all unwanted behavior in ANY dog. Her name is Krista Cantrell and I absolutely LOVE the way she teaches. Click on the video to watch. You'll be glad you did...

Holidaying with dogs can be dreadful for all the family including the dogs, as many dogs don't enjoy riding in vehicles and plenty more are basically terrified by vehicles. If your dog is one of those dogs, you know how nerve-wrangling travelling with your dog can be. The most significant factors in training your dog to enjoy automobile rides are tenaciousness and time. Causing your dog to move at a faster pace than he or she is ok with will only further impress their fear of travel. You'll have to take time out on a common foundation for a possible 1 or 2 week period to allow your dog the time it has to put up a positive organisation with the vehicle.

What often keeps dogs petrified is fear of the unknown. Regularly dogs form their conception of the vehicle based fully on negative experiences. It's your job to help your dog understand the auto is not going to take him to a place of discomfort and terror. Presuming your dog is even content to get in the car to begin with, there are numerous steps to transforming your dog from scared to euphoric.

Step 1 - Take your dog on a single drive round the block. Drive slowly and methodically and permit your dog to look out the window as you drive. Keeping the window down partially will also allow him to smell that he isn't some distance from home. Be certain to ignore any concerned behavior instead of punish it. Punishing your dog for whining or being anxious will only provide negative strengthening for this sort of behavior. As an alternative praise calm and desireable behaviour. When you arrive back home praise your dog enthusiastically and let them leap out of the automobile and see that they're safe and secure back home. Repeat this step for several days or until you can see that your dog is ok with this short ritual.

Step 2 - Progress to a 5-10 minute drive in town and back home. Continue to drive likewise to the way your drove round the block. Again, be certain to ignore any anxious behavior, shaking, or even drooling. Reward calm behaviour and do not punish your dog for their fear. Remember, you are trying to associate positive experiences with riding in a vehicle. Come home and again praise your dog enthusiastically for their successful ride. Repeat this step as you probably did the 1st, until your pet is comfortable with this next step.

Step 3 - Finally, choose a destination that's near to home highly fun and rewarding for your dog. A nearby dog park, the beach, or possibly a hiking trail are very good 1st time destinations. Remember, the goal is to persuade your dog that the vehicle will not take them to a place of terror, but rather places that are safe, fun, and exciting.

Once your dog has comfortably mastered these steps, a longer travel trip is safe to plan. It may appear tough and time consuming to complete these steps, but slow progression will still harvest great rewards for you and your dog in the longer term and make travel more pet friendly and nice for the both of you.
