THIS IS AWESOME! My favorite dog trainer and dog whisperer of all time has just released a free video online explaining how to eliminate 94% of all unwanted behavior in ANY dog. Her name is Krista Cantrell and I absolutely LOVE the way she teaches. Click on the video to watch. You'll be glad you did...

A large Doberman who is barking like crazy can definitely drive you nuts.  It is even worse whenever the dog isn’t playing around.  It’s one thing when your dog is barking at someone busting in or perhaps someone getting too close to you on the street.  However, it is a different thing if he goes on about the postman that went by a half hour ago… or because your neighborhood cat is relaxing in the driveway

If you need to teach your dog to stop barking, you must be willing to determine why he’s barking.  It is inappropriate to immediately tell your dog to quit barking.  He’s barking for a reason and you should respect the dog enough to learn why.  Maybe somebody is hiding right behind the vehicle that you simply can’t see.  Maybe he is telling you that something hurts and barking is the only way to get your attention.  There are generally a multitude of reasons why your dog might be barking.  It is your job to discover the trigger since you’re the boss.

Puppies who bark need to be managed a bit differently.  Pups mostly just do not know any better.  The new puppy will bark just because he wants to before you train him not to with the “quiet” command.  Continually provide him praise when he stops barking if you tell him to.  Even when he is a puppy, you’ll still need to determine if he’s barking for a reason before you can command him to stop.  Training him not to bark without figuring out why he is barking suggests he likely won’t bark when something unsafe does happen.

An older dog that still has an issue with annoying barking still must be respected.  You should constantly tell your dog that you value the barking when there’s a good reason.  A spray bottle filled with water will most likely have the desired effect if the dog is just barking for no clear reason.  Give the command to quit barking,  and when he keeps barking, spray him.  Eventually he will know the along with his woofing signifies the squirt bottle.  Since the majority of dogs really really like the water, it’s shocking that this works.  This might be an excellent technique because of the shock aspect involved.

The very best method to stop a Doberman Pinscher from too much barking is to train them as a puppy.  However, that doesn’t mean that an mature dog can’t be taught too.
