If your older dog is reluctant to stand or is slow in following basic orders and commands you may consider it as a normal result of aging of dogs. While it is true that your dog can become slower as he ages he may be suffering pain from arthritic joints.

Dog aspirin is a common medication for pain caused by canine arthritis. Provided in small doses, affordable medication offer pain relief by relieving inflammation. Ibuprofen can be used but can have the side effect of tummy irritation with frequent use.

While aspirin can be the cheapest and most accessible option as an arthritis medication but even aspirin can cause side effects, especially with long term use. Vets might prescribe aspirin to give dogs temporary relief from the joint pain but this drug should be restricted to dogs having problems with kidneys and blood pressure. Prolonged used of aspirin can cause stomach irritation.

Arthritis in dogs is not constant. The pain and stiffness wax and wane depending on activity and even on the temperature and weather. If you have a gentle form of arthritis yourself any environment change that causes you pain will likely have the very same effect on your arthritic canine.

These are non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID) that are surprisingly efficient pain medication for many dogs.

Rimadyl treats the discomfort and inflammation of arthris and other joint ailments that consist of hip dysplasia. It is also regularly prescribed for pain relief following surgical procedure and for dogs with fever.
