You should not wait to start training your poodle, start as soon as you bring them home. There are a number of accessible assistance that you can get like a poodle training club and poodle training dvds. If you set a feeding and watering routine this will make it less difficult to know when to get the puppy out. Use potty commands every time, this will let him know that this is not a time to play, but that it is time to use the toilet. You should certainly constantly keep in mind to praise your puppy when he does things right, this will give him the reassurance that he needs from you as his master.
