When you have a new dog in your home the most vital thing to take care of is their dog obedience training. When a dog is well behaved it will slide right in to your family and can be trusted at any event you may hold at home or go to in public. The secret to dog obedience training is to get started fast and make sure you are consistent with your commands and boundaries.
It is easiest to start dog obedience training when your pet is still a puppy. It can be hard to start the training because puppies look so cute, but it is important you do. Do not accept poor behavior the first day your puppy moves in. Do not let the puppy on your furniture, so when it is full grown, it will know the rules. You don’t want your grown dog to jump up at people, so don’t allow the puppy to.
Although it may be hard to stay firm with puppies as already mentioned. Remember, don’t be mean or over bearing with the puppy, simply be firm, but remain calm, when saying “no”. Puppies will have only recently been biting, fighting, scratching and jumping with their litter, which is why you need to start early to stamp out any bad behavior. If you ever watch a mother dog, you’ll notice she doesn’t allow her puppies to act aggressively, and you should follow her example and be as firm.
If you are adopting a full grown dog, obedience training will have different challenges you’ll need to be ready to face. If your new dog just came from a home that was consistent with good dog training, you and the dog will need some time to learn more about each other. Use the same consistent and firm methods you would use for a puppy.
For older dogs you should try to learn what you can about them before you actually take them home with you. For dogs being adopted from a shelter visit the dog a couple of times before you actually take it, the same goes for dogs being taken from sellers. Try to get an idea of how the dog will act before you bring it home.
Naturally, begin your obedience training as soon as you arrive home with the dog. You need to be sure the dog knows it’s boundaries the minute the arrive home and expect the dog to be excited about being in a new environment. Simply say ‘no’ steadily when the dog acts out and does anything that you do not want it to. Remain relaxed and your dog will relax also.
It’s vital to begin dog obedience training as soon as possible and hopefully these tips will help you along the way, but you’ll see dog training is simple.
