THIS IS AWESOME! My favorite dog trainer and dog whisperer of all time has just released a free video online explaining how to eliminate 94% of all unwanted behavior in ANY dog. Her name is Krista Cantrell and I absolutely LOVE the way she teaches. Click on the video to watch. You'll be glad you did...

Dogs are called man’s best friend, probably due to their vicious loyalty to their masters. As dogs have been disciplined around 15,000 years ago, it makes the dog a perfect pet. There are numerous breeds of dogs such the Terrier and the Mastiff for example in addition to dog types. These two terms should not be used interchangeably as dog type means to categorize the animals by the function it performs. Breeding dogs is the practice of allowing specially selected specimens to mate in order to preserve or create certain qualities or traits.

The characteristics of the offspring are left for nature to decide when dogs reproduce without human involvement. Thus, many domestic dog owners would be breeding dogs to obtain an improved new generation of dogs. In any case, breeding dogs is not an easy task. One needs to have a rather comprehensive knowledge about the genetics of the dog, health and its intended purpose in order to be successfully breeding dogs. In addition, dog breeders generally record the birth of puppies in stud books of associations such as kennel clubs, where the data regarding the dog as well as, the dog’s lineage and special achievements are entered. The American Kennel Club (AKC) is one such famous association.

Properly maintaining data about dogs is vital for breeding dogs. Once an owner has informationconcerning the dog, he/she could study them and determine what qualities could be expected and what should be avoided. The dog breeder may also have to determine whether to inbreed or to outcross. In addition, there are certain set of laws that have to be adhered to when breeding dogs. These rules may differ depending on the breed, kennel club and country. Normally, the rules are designed for the well being of a specific breed or several dog breeds and dog breeders have to stick to the laws of an organization to be recruited in their breed programs. In addition, these rules may include various tests to determine the health and working qualities of the dog, and would also include an evaluation by an expert breeder.

Although breeding dogs is a popular thing, there are specific groups who resist and condemn the practice. Animal rights groups charge that most breeders are merely concerned about the profit and state that such individuals have no regard of the wellbeing of the animal and thus breeding dogs for purpose of selling is unethical. In addition inbreeding has also come under attack as this might cause the natural hereditary disorders of the dogs to continue into new generations.

Thus, breeding dogs could be thought of as a very delicate matter. You would need to have a good understanding of the subject if you wish to perform it.
