THIS IS AWESOME! My favorite dog trainer and dog whisperer of all time has just released a free video online explaining how to eliminate 94% of all unwanted behavior in ANY dog. Her name is Krista Cantrell and I absolutely LOVE the way she teaches. Click on the video to watch. You'll be glad you did...

As dogs are descended from wolves their behavior is driven by their nature as a pack animal. In the family one member should take the leadership role and let the dog know this. This is as relevant for when it comes to putting your dog into dog boarding kennels as it is to everyday life in the home.

Dogs use growling to show leadership; humans use an authoritative voice instead to show they are the leader of the family pack. Instructions should be clear as dogs don’t like confusion or vagueness. Most dogs will step up and take leadership if and when instructions are too vague. Nuzzling, licking and attention are given by pack leaders to show that other dogs and members of the pack belong. You can support your leadership position by giving your dog some attention, stroking and nuzzling, though licking in return is not recommended for obvious health reasons.

On those occasions when you have to put your pet in dog boarding kennels your role as protector of the pack is still functioning. It is up to you to see that the boarding kennels you choose are appropriate and safe for the time you leave them. It is important to communicate your comfort and assurance to your dog.

Dogs have a very strong sense of observation and they take their cue as to what their feelings and concerns should be from the pack leader. As you are always communicating with your dog any insecurities or uncertainties about putting him or her into dog boarding kennels will be immediately communicated as well. They will wonder if you are abdicating responsibilities of protecting them if you are distressed about leaving them there. As a result once you have picked out the best dog boarding kennels possible you need to be quietly authoritative about that choice and when it comes to leaving them there be calm and assume they will be fine in that setting.
