THIS IS AWESOME! My favorite dog trainer and dog whisperer of all time has just released a free video online explaining how to eliminate 94% of all unwanted behavior in ANY dog. Her name is Krista Cantrell and I absolutely LOVE the way she teaches. Click on the video to watch. You'll be glad you did...

Man uses dogs in various capacities. Majority of dog owners keep the dog as pets because these are very loyal and affectionate animals. The dog owner will always receive the credit for the impressive appearance and the good behavior of the dog. This would be due to the fact that caring and responsible dog owners would make sure that the pet is provided with the best food and care to ensure its well being. The owner would also take time to socialize, obedience train and discipline the dog to mold the dog into a good canine citizen.

Dogs are not treated merely as pets but as members of the family. Oftentimes, the pet dog will be treated as the baby of the family thus attention and love will be focused on the pet. These living toys become the best pals of the family. Because these pets are pampered and spoiled it is not uncommon for them to manifest unwanted behaviors. Instead of being owned the dog would now own the human family.

If allowed dogs would develop the habit of filching food, raiding trash cans, destructive chewing, excessive barking and jumping at people. A lot of dog owners would not mind the unacceptable behavior of dogs believing that being animals, dogs are not expected to do better. Along with providing the basic needs of the dogs, an owner should also take time to discipline the pet.

One of the responsibilities of a dog owner is to control the behavior of the pet. How would you discipline your dog? Which method would you use to make the pet aware that you are the alpha male - physical punishment or positive reinforcements in the form of toys and treats?

Physical punishment may not be effective as even though dogs are intelligent animals they may not be aware why they are being punished. A spray bottle filled with cold water or the kid’s water gun and a tin can filled with coins would be good tools to discipline the dog. The sound of rattling coins in the tin can or the feel of the cold water on the dog’s face every time the dog is on one of its unwanted habits like jumping on people or tormenting cat would eventually make the pet think twice about doing the unwanted habit again. These methods that will serve as unpleasant stimuli would be more effective than physically punishing the pet.
