It’s expected that you will be perplexed when you happen to come by in a grocery store or in pet shop looking for the best dog food offered. The enticing captions, flavors, and varieties only present it more difficult for you to choose which the real one would be outstanding for your dog. Use the following information and the suggestion of your breeder and your vet to choose foods that will keep your dog in peak conditions throughout his life.
DRY FOOD (KIBBLE)
Nutritionally complete dry food should be the staple of your dog’s diet. Pick something that is definitely suited for your dog’s size and age. It should also supply the basic energy for your dog’s daily pastime and must have high quality, not just relying on the price and brand. Less expensive brands sometimes replacement with substandard ingredients that are not useful for your dog. The one good benefit dry foods give is that when a dog chews kibbles, the tartar which remains on their teeth are scraped by the kibble pieces, facilitating them to get rid of tartar
CANNED FOOD
Canned food is much more pricey than dry food, and many kinds contain up to 70 percent of water. Many kinds of canned food are not nutritionally complete and are meant to be served with dry food, so again, make sure you read the label. If it does not say “complete” or “nutritionally complete” it is meant to complement dry food. Because canned food is soft and moist, it does not help keep your dog’s teeth and gums in good position. A popular way to get the benefits of kibble and the added palatableness of canned food is to serve one third canned food with two thirds dry food. Put the left-over canned food in the refrigerator to maintain its quality.
SEMI-MOIST FOOD
Semi moist food is often colored and packaged to seem like hamburgers. This means naught to the dog, and is designed to attract the owner (who is doing the purchasing). Semi moist foods end to have large amounts of sugar, salt, artificial colorings and preservatives. If you choose to feed this kind of food to your dog, think offering small bits as a treat rather feeding large quantities as a meal. Another method of packaging the semi-moist dog foods is by packaging it for single servings. And this is made to trick the customers. While this can be very useful (while traveling, for example) try packaging single portions of your dog’s usual kibble in sealing sandwich bags instead.
WATER
Never forget to frequently give your dog fresh, clean water. To be sure that he is provided with clean water, always inspect his water bowl for at least two or three times a day. Change the water and meticulously rinse the bowl daily. If your dog will be outside for any prolonged period, make sure he also has access to clean water there.
SNACKS AND TREATS
Dry dog biscuits are useful as treats between meals or during training sessions . Like kibble, hard biscuits are good for your dog’s teeth and will help control tartar.
Other healthy treats you can feed your canine include bits of fruit or steamed vegetables, like grapes, apples, carrots and broccoli. Watch your dog’s diet. He might become obese if he keeps taking the foods in excess amounts. The amount of calorie is not the only thing you ought to monitor about his diet. Treat must also be in the list. Offer little tidbits - a smaller piece of biscuit instead of the entire thing . The most important thing to your dog is that you are praising him and offering a reward.
