Border Collie Training: Do’s To Remember
THIS IS AWESOME!
My favorite dog trainer and dog whisperer of all time has just released a free video online explaining how to eliminate 94% of all unwanted behavior in ANY dog.
Her name is Krista Cantrell and I absolutely LOVE the way she teaches.

Border collie training differs from training a chihhuahua or a great dane. This breed is notable for their intelligence, energy and strong herding instinct thus training them can be challenging particularly to new owners. However, it is not impossible for a first-time border collie owner to own a herding breed as well-trained pet. There is more than one way to skin a cat… the same is true with training a dog. There are numerous approaches as well as training tools one can use to attain positive training outcome.
To guide you towards successful border collie training, here are some do’s to take into account:
- Do start training at an early age. Though the cliché “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks” isn’t generally true, it helps to start training your family pet the day he arrives home.
- Do socialize your pet during the initial days at home. Training during this period doesn’t have to include any kind of advance tricks or lessons. It pays to focus more on helping him get used to the new atmosphere he is into for it will greatly affect his social relationship later in life.
- Do train at the right location. When teaching a particular command for the first-time, it would be more effective to choose a quiet area that’s free of interruptions. Then practice on various locations if he has mastered the command.
- Do consider your dog’s personality traits. Border collies are energetic, intelligent and often mistaken as stubborn breed. Know that they have strong tendency to herd, including humans, so be careful.
- Do make it clear to him that you’re the pack leader he ought to respect and trust.
Many border collies were abandoned or turned over to shelters due to behavior problems. But these unfortunate events wouldn’t have taken place only if they were given appropriate border collie training.
