Basic Dog Training Made Easy.
THIS IS AWESOME!
My favorite dog trainer and dog whisperer of all time has just released a free video online explaining how to eliminate 94% of all unwanted behavior in ANY dog.
Her name is Krista Cantrell and I absolutely LOVE the way she teaches.

Training dogs is easy, ONLY when you know exactly how its done. It seems inherent in the dog breed to have the desire to please their master. It is important to understand that all dogs are a pack animal, needing he support and structure of a pack to exist effectively. In the dog family or pack situation, dogs are continually attempting to maintain or improve their importance in the group. They challenge each other and establish a position of superiority or submission to the other animals.
Now when dogs become part of a human family (or pack), they establish a similar social position. A dogs senses are finely tuned to who needs to be respected, and who can be ignored. Most dogs quickly realize that the adults are leaders and children are lowly pack members regardless of their size. It is common to see dogs ignoring the instructions of a child while obeying the adults. This is due to the dog seeing itself as superior to the young family members.
Many dogs that display behavioral problems have often placed themselves above all but one adult, and sometimes see themselves as the leader of the pack. Before effective training can take place, leadership of the trainer needs to be firmly established. Once a trainer is considered the leader by a dog, then it will generally be attentive, and observe rules that are set.
Effective dog training only occurs when the process is very consistent. Variations and changes of commands will likely confuse the dog.
Praise and reward good behavior, and ignore or distract the dog for bad behavior. In order to rapidly attract your dogs attention, the trainer needs to develop a short sharp sound. One very effective method is using a short Ah,Ah sound. Not in a whining or yelling tone, but an abrupt sharp sound at moderate volume. Completion of a task or good behavior is vigorously rewarded.
Rewards can in the early stages be small food treats such as dried meat snacks etc, but gradually the reward becomes only positive attention such as a cuddle and praise. Use whatever physical attention the dog really enjoys. This method is then used to encourage the behavior that you want the dog to do, reward it and repeat.
The tricky bit starts when we are treating unseen behavior(the stuff they do while you are not at home watching and they know it)… But that’s a whole other article.
