7Secrets Of Dog Training Professionals - Operant Conditioning
THIS IS AWESOME!
My favorite dog trainer and dog whisperer of all time has just released a free video online explaining how to eliminate 94% of all unwanted behavior in ANY dog.
Her name is Krista Cantrell and I absolutely LOVE the way she teaches.

Have you ever wondered how really good dog trainers come with the techniques they use to solve behavior problems in dogs such as excessive barking, destructive chewing, toilet of the house and jumps on visitors? Or how top dog trainers to find ways to train dogs in top obedience and working events? With the exception of a few “natural”, most really good dog trainers have a good understanding of how dogs learn. They have adapted the theory of the world of behavioral science and turned that knowledge is a real capacity for practical training for dogs. 7This article explains in plain English a bit of science and theory of dog training, these really are secrets of dog training professionals!
Instrumental air conditioning is a term that scientists use to describe what dog trainers call “training effect”. 9So, no education, a result that will either confirm or punish the behavior. 4 is a possible consequence of the equipment used in the packaging sector and not a consequence. These include:
1. Positive Reinforcement: when given a reward and an increase in behavior or holds, for what we call positive reinforcement (+ R). eg dog sits when asked, give us a gift. 7Dog learns to sit when asked in the future.
2. Negative reinforcement: when you take something away and increases or obnoxious behavior is updated accordingly, we call this negative reinforcement (-R). For example, we ask dog to sit, pulling up on the neck, the dog sits, the pressure is released the neck. 0Dog learns to sit when asked in the future.
3. Positive Punishment: when we do something unpleasant, and behaviors have decreased or eliminated accordingly, we call this barely positive (+ P). eg dog will investigate kitchen bench for food, we make a popping noise. The dog learns not to investigate kitchen benches for food in the future.
4. Negative Punishment: when we remove something the dog wants or likes and behavior have decreased or eliminated accordingly, we call this negative punishment (-P). eg dog plays too rough with another dog more timid, we raw dog leash and remove the opportunity to play. The dog learns not to play too rough in the future.
5. Extinction: when the behavior is reinforced over and it goes away eventually, we call this extinction. the dog is accustomed to being allowed out when he complained to the door, but suddenly no longer allowed when he yells. 8The dog learns not to whine at the door. 7Extinction sometimes makes the target behavior worse before it gets better, sometimes significantly. This is called an “extinction burst” and is usually a sign that the behavior decreases rapidly. In this example, the dog might whine more often, hard and long before learning that whining does not work not for him.
Consider the conditions specified. Apart from extinction, you will notice four words that can be used in the four different combinations. These are “positive” “negative”, “reinforcement” and “punishment” and they are technical terms that scientists use when discussing operant conditioning.
“Positive” means something to add. We add the reward, or add the Punisher. 9In contrast, “Negative” means taking something away. 6We remove the reward, or remove the unpleasant stimulus.
“Reinforcement” is when you increase or maintain behavior. 0The problem occurs more frequently, more intensely, for long periods, or continues to occur without reducing the frequency, intensity or duration. 2In contrast, “Punishment” is when you reduce or eliminate behavior through impact. We reduce the frequency, intensity or duration of driving.
A common mistake is to assume that we have reinforced or punished behavior when in fact the future, we find that the conduct has not actually been changed! Many dog trainers believe that praise is an effective activator. 1It may be that certain dogs in certain circumstances. The truth is that we do not know if we see behavior that earned the praise increase or continue to occur in the future. The same applies to the sentence. Yelling at a dog g to prevent him from going through your garbage while you’re there, but does it stop your dog through the trash while you are away? Probably not. A more effective method is to use a safer waste bin, or put the waste in a location inaccessible to the dog c.
