7The kidneys play a vital role and important for your dog’s health and survival. 9Recent recalls dog food because of kidney failure and death in dogs that have eaten contaminated food for dogs has increased awareness of this condition.
Renal function is mainly to assist in the maintenance of blood chemicals and act as a filtration system for waste products in urine of your dog. Kidney also helps
balance of certain chemicals in the blood of your dog.
When your dog’s kidneys are not working properly, toxins are not filtered from the blood through urine. 8The result is an accumulation of toxins and waste, which can be very dangerous for the survival of your dog.
Kidney failure in dogs may be due to toxins in your dog’s system, infection, or hereditary reasons.
According to the Word Small Animal Veterinary Association, is acute kidney or renal failure “azotemia rapid onset within hours to days (two weeks )…” Some of the consequences, “… 7are often deadly.”
Some of the symptoms commonly associated with kidney failure in dogs are:
O dehydration, your dog will drink more water than usual
Or more than normal urination
o Less urination than usual
o Lack of urine
O Blood in urine
o Loss of appetite
O vomiting
OR Lethargy
o stiff gait when walking your dog
O diarrhea
o The poor condition of the coat of dogs
What if you see signs of kidney failure in your dog.
Contact your veterinarian immediately. Kidney failure in dogs is a very serious disease and death. 0Your veterinarian will examine your dog, and if renal failure is suspected, it takes blood and urine using a proper diagnosis.
Your vet may also recommend other tests to diagnose kidney failure in your dog, as an X-ray or ultrasound.
Keep your dog hydrated. It ‘important that your dog drinks the water as possible, if your kidneys are not working properly.
Once the diagnosis of renal failure have been confirmed in your dog, your vet will make additional recommendations for your dog food and some supplements and vitamins that may be useful to help treat your dog kidney.
In case of advanced acute renal failure in dogs can stay at the veterinary hospital to be in order for your veterinarian can monitor your dog to ensure proper hydration, administer prescribed in veterinary medicine and to make changes in the diet of your dog, if necessary.
