Dog Training - Leash Walking Nightmare
THIS IS AWESOME!
My favorite dog trainer and dog whisperer of all time has just released a free video online explaining how to eliminate 94% of all unwanted behavior in ANY dog.
Her name is Krista Cantrell and I absolutely LOVE the way she teaches.

~Sigh~ Ya know, I …
~Sigh~ Ya know, I can walk my two dobermans with a shoestring if i wanted to, once a dog learns to walk on a leash correctly its not like its only for that one leash lol. You really dont have to throw anything away. Buy some cheap leashes, and use your good ones later.
are collars a bad …
are collars a bad thing for a dogs throat? my german shepherd is 6 months old and pulls like a train. that can’t be good for his throat, I don’t know what to buy a harness or a gentle leader..it’s gotta be able to hold onto him well, it can’t slip off. I tried your tennis ball throwing technique.. my dog only drops the ball if I have another ball now lol..so now I play fetch with 2 balls :S
great explanation. …

Hi Eric, that’s a really helpful video you’ve made!
Great job!
For beggin, ignore …
For beggin, ignore him completely. If he gets noisy about it, remove him from the room.
For the jumping/scratching on doors, you need to be there with him, say “No.” in a very firm voice. The INSTANT he comes down/stops the behavior, praise him and treat him. He will soon ociate the treat/praise with NOT scratching/jumping. Training a dog is very simple, reward what you WANT, remove good stuff when behaviors aren’t wanted.
That would never …
That would never work for us because our leashes are way too thick. They are made like thick braided ropes. I`ll have to watch more videos to find another technique because these leashes were a little expensive so I don`t want to waste our money by throwing them out and buying more.
amazing! your …
amazing! your belgian malinois is as the same name of my dog(belgian malinois)
If you can not keep …
If you can not keep up with your german shepherd in terms of speed and endurance, you should not have one.
I run a seven minute mile and my german shepherd can run faster than me, but cannot run a seven minute mile. After 100 yards, he heels. I also practice benevolent leadership: stopping when he pulls, treating and affection when he heels.
Most dogs in the shepherding, working, fighting, terrier groups DO NOT want to walk. You should be able to at least jog/run/blade until they tire out.
hey eric, i have a …
hey eric, i have a german shepherd and he’s very energetic. It’s really hard for me to make him walk because he loves to run. Is there any tip you could give me?? thanks!
Thank you!
Thank you!

You can start now. The earlier the better. I would get a regular six foot leash. Retractable leashes are not good for training. Good luck!

Eric - Another awesome job of showing and explaining leash walking! Keep up the good work.
A leash gives you …
A leash gives you control. When your dog runs up to someone else’s dog you are eventually going to run into some trouble. What will you do when your dog meets another one he doesn’t like or vice versa? Or, if your dog bites someone (provoked or not) and has to be quarantined? It happens all the time. Also, it is virtually impossible to guarantee that your dog won’t freak out and run into the road or run away if a car crash happens near you? Better safe than sorry - Leashes help save lives.

Head halters ( …
Head halters (Gentle Leaders and Haltis) are great and I use them all the time. I like the design of the Gentle Leader better than the Halti but they both get excellent results.

dear Eric,
My problem is that my dog simply cannot be calm. He is not relaxed for a second. Even if he is tired, he wants to walk back and forth, and never wants to go just straight ahead… what is your suggestion?
Hey Eric. I am …
Hey Eric. I am using a Halti and it works pretty fine - I want to know what do you think about training with Halti.
some people cover …
some people cover the prong collar with a bandana so that the dog doesn’t look so scary. people always ume it’s a flat collar under the bandana. =P
I love your videos …
I love your videos but I wish you would use an untrained dog. my husky lab mix will never relax , he just wants to pull no matter how long I wait or what I do . thanks for any suggestions
I don’t keep my dog …
I don’t keep my dog in a leash at all. We just communicate and I’ve heard about the dangers but I didn’t had problems at all, she gets along with people and other dogs very well, I like to keep her as free as I can. I have a two year old Shar-Pei.
I’ve got 2 - 55 lb. …
I’ve got 2 - 55 lb. dogs (2 & 4 yrs old). Each walks nicely alone on leash using this technique. Where it gets difficult is when both are on leash together; the younger dog wants to lead and begins pulling. I use the same grip, holding both leashes together. It takes a few direction changes to get her to pay more attention to me than the other dog.
like your story …
like your story about husky pulling, they’re so strong for their size. my four month old husky walks fairly well, but sometimes she pulls. good advice not to wrap, sometimes i forget and do that, but i do know it gets worse when i do. i usu. just grab the leash halfway and walk like that with the rest of the leash behind me or in front of me in the other hand. this works for us very well. thanks again eric!
