Building Attention: Game 1 Clicker dog training
THIS IS AWESOME!
My favorite dog trainer and dog whisperer of all time has just released a free video online explaining how to eliminate 94% of all unwanted behavior in ANY dog.
Her name is Krista Cantrell and I absolutely LOVE the way she teaches.
Click on the video to watch. You'll be glad you did...

This video goes over one game of how to train your dog to pay attention to you in distracting environments.
If you find that your dog is not interested in the game, try the game with higher level reinforcement- better treats (or toys), move to a less distracting environment, more to an area where you can run more (yet is safe)- as you could see in my video my yard was almost too small to play this game as its really moving fast and away that encourages a dog to run to you.

Hi! I think the puppy came to you because you knelt down to tell him you are small and safe. Is this true?
Thanks

very good advice, I like the fact that it’s waiting for the dog to choose to be with you. It makes sense why this would work so well, this is in fact how I train heel too

@kikopup If you check out my video on no biting and not biting the leash- you will see a way to train your dog to ignore distractions while with you- basically you click your dog for staying with you calmly while the distractions happen.
@GypsyEyes09 I …
@GypsyEyes09 I agree! If you watch my leash biting video and my no biting video- you will see that I also proof for the dog being calm while distractions occur- shuffling feet past jsut means stay calm and doing what you are doing- or kids running by, or cars etc.

@GoldenBrandon131997 Yes. the point is for the puppy to want to be with you in any environment- so if you run off the puppy runs with you, rather than runs off to chase squirrels. It also teaches a puppy if they do run after you- not to bite or jump when they get to you but run along side you (great for the Fast exercise in Rally obedience). and great for not knocking down and biting running kids.
@mollybrandybillly …
But you would have to use management- obviously dont go to a field thats not fenced in at first. Start with no distraction then build to other places. its just conditioning- getting the dog to find you more reinforcing in other environments. So it can only make things better. The great thing is you are not saying “come”, so if the dog doesn’t run to you, you can just think to yourself “whateva…” (and think up other ways to make yourself more interesting)

omg jack what kinda person are you? i feel sorry for ur dog and any other animal that you own. if you are beating your animal(s) in my opinion you are a bad trainer and dont deserve to have animals in your life. what the did they ever do to u to deserve that, NOTHING! absolulty horriable!!!
would this work …
would this work with an older dog say 3 years old as they have already learnt bad habits?
@ …
@GoldenBrandon131997 Yes your puppy will chase people if you are not the pack leader, the center of universe for your puppy, the one who only can make your puppy feel comfortable.
This is not a basic training.
I will not train my puppy for other tricks / behavior before they can focus on me, seeing me as the leader and the only one who can play with them.
I do not and never allow other people to pet my dog more than 5 second. And I do not allow my pup / dog to say hi to everybody who come.

Game 1? I look forward to seeing the subsequent games you play to build focus and attention!
This looks great …
This looks great but i have actually had to do the opposite. I have a border collie pup that is 8 months old now and she loves to chase everything that runs. I have taught her to ignore running people by rewarding her for not chasing me when i run. She is still tempted sometimes though. There was a great example today when someone took off running right next to her. She turned to chase but immediately corrected herself and went back to look for her hidden tennisball.

Hello Emily
This looks great! And love the demo of all feet on the ground and then treat.
Though, I have a question. Once your puppy already follows you everywhere and pays attention, how do you fade the treats/reward then?
