In 1972 there were only 25 porties in the world. They were brought back from the brink-literally! Obamas getting one imperils the breed, whose gene pool has been carefully managed by those devoted to this unique breed. I dread the day that I hear of one showing up in a pet store, bred in a Missouri puppymill, or by someone who wants to make quick buck by matching dogs with inferior characteristics. It’s a sad thing.

Got the first from a small private breeder - he was INCOMPARABLE to the dogs people got from pet stores or rescues (imagine a calm, healthy, and easy to train dalmatian who lived almost 16yrs) because of the overbreeding to satisfy crazy demand after 101 Dalmatians. I hope the same doesn’t happen to PPDs. We got our second from a rescue and he was abandoned as soon as he reached full size by a family who wanted a cute puppy. Argh.

That’s an awful …
That’s an awful thing to say about Senator Kennedy and just shows you’re more interested in sharing your political bias than commenting on the dogs. He gave Obamas a puppy that was returned to a breeder (so some would call it a rescue) after the Obamas decided this was the breed they liked. He has no reason to be ashamed.

great dogs.. i’m from iceland and my grandpa had one up in the country to search and kill minks..he did a great job at it..excellent swimmers! and his name was lubbi..wich means furball! loved that dog!!

people who make videos about portuguese water dogs and use obama name to get more views, shouldn’t be doing that. this just gonna motivate more people to get one. thinking they’re easy to take care of.

The Obama’s choice …
The Obama’s choice for ‘first puppy’ will cause all crazed Americans to rush out to get one. Think and educate yourselves before you buy a puppy. They are a lot of responsibility and an expense. If you can’t afford to license one, get it’s vaccinations every year or whenever necessary and pay huge vet bills if anything serious happens…think again.
