How do REPUTABLE dog breeders fit in time to care, train and breed their dogs and hold down a job?
THIS IS AWESOME!
My favorite dog trainer and dog whisperer of all time has just released a free video online explaining how to eliminate 94% of all unwanted behavior in ANY dog.
Her name is Krista Cantrell and I absolutely LOVE the way she teaches.

The reputable dog breeders say breeding doesn’t earn you money, you barley break even. So how do they fit training, socialising, grooming, showing and breeding around their work?
It’s about dedication. Usually a small "hobby" breeder only has an occasional litter, she/he usually breeds to get a pup for themselves from their own line and to carry on a line. Their dogs go to performance based homes, they co-own their dogs, they sell on s/n contracts
I have quite a few friends who breed. My very good friend, who I got my wire(s) from, has a full time job at a non-for-profit organization, she’s far from wealthy. Her husband is on disabilty. As far as I can see and I know her a long time, she does not go on vacation, her money is spend on dog shows, field trials and training. She’s a member of the national breed club and local breed club.
Another friend is full time groomer, she owns her own grooming business and breeds Bearded Collies. She’s not living the high life. She too shows her dogs and does herding with them when she can.
Another friend breeds Standard Poodles, she works full time in the public school system, she too has a retired husband.
Not everyone has the money to hire a handler. Most of the people I know own and handle their own dogs.
None of these people are "wealthy", not of them have given up their full time job to breed dogs, none of them are shopping in Gucchi or Prada. The days of the wealthy people with big kennels, like the Rockafellers had are way over.
All of these ladies care for thier dogs and pups themselves, maybe with some help from the husband and/or children.
None of these people are rolling in dough. That’s just ridiculous.

It’s a family affair…The breeders I know all work together to care for the dogs as far as feeding, grooming and so on. Breeders also stay home alot and don’t take alot of vacations..if they do, it’s off to a dog show. I’ve even pitched in and helped with caring for the dogs when someone gets sick…

Great breeders..far from making a million with their dogs….
They often dont. That is why many breeders are retired from their old jobs. They can make money grooming, showing, or handling other peoples dogs as well
Some have spouses who bring in good income as well.
Reality Check makes a great point…often more than one member of the family is involved. It isn’t just one person. More of a tag team effort.

Reputable breeders that show dogs often times have handlers to show them. I used to show but only went to the top shows. My handler did it otherwise. I had a full time job as did my husband and we had to hire a young man to work in our kennels for us.
And no you do not make any money breeding, sometimes you go in to a hole. I have 3 pups from last liter (almost a year now) that I couldn’t sale so I ended up with a 6 thousand dollar loss by not being able to sell them.
I am now retired an spend my time with the dogs but still only o to large shows and still have a handler.

By working extremely hard!
Plenty of breeders do it, many don’t work full time, don’t have a social life or go on holiday.
Training is done all the time, plus one evening a week at ringcraft. Socialising is done on walks & people coming to your house to see the puppies. Grooming - my breed doesn’t need much. Showing takes as much or as little time as you can spare (say goodbye to gardening, painting the house other other things "normal" people do). Breeding - means an understanding boss or taking annual leave.
ETA - in the UK, very few people use professional handlers.

i would say that they just use it in their own free time or when they want to or i think it is their job or something

No most are not born rich like ladystang naively suggests.
some don’t have full time jobs while their partners do, many have other family members involved, some hire handlers(UKC in the US doesn’t allow pro handlers unless they own or co-own the animal) or depending on what they breed and why they make a living with their dogs.
Like anything its about being dedicated.

We didn’t breed any litters until hubby was earning enough to ‘keep us in the manner I wanted to become accustomed to’ without me going out to work (away from home - I worked really hard, at home, for no pay!!). If we had both had to work full time (or even part time, for me), I’d not have gone breeding.
But it’s true that every breeder’s situation is different. Some have family who pitch in, others, if they want to carry on working full time, employ help, depending on the size of the outfit. Others run a Boarding Kennel or grooming parlour, alongside their breeding kennel. And so on.
