More About Hyper-Active Boxers

THIS IS AWESOME! My favorite dog trainer and dog whisperer of all time has just released a free video online explaining how to eliminate 94% of all unwanted behavior in ANY dog. Her name is Krista Cantrell and I absolutely LOVE the way she teaches. Click on the video to watch. You'll be glad you did...

People keep hearing time and time again about hyper-active dogs, but a boxer that grows energetic and very active with each passing day is still a big cause for surprise for so many. To digress, the worst decision that can possibly be made later on is to assume that a hyper dog has no need for a regular amount of exercise in order to be happy and fit. Anyway, the point is that many pet owners looking for a boxer disregard the boisterous nature of a puppy, and wake up each day to a dog that requires far more effort than when it was still a puppy.

But is there really more to the boxer breed aside from the reputation for hyperactivity? Most boxers are playful, but the rest are also level-headed and not too tied to their temperament and dispositions, which means they are capable of adapting to their owner’s schedule, or spending quiet time in between play appointments, walks, and boxer dog training. On the other hand, a hyperactive dog’s love for fun kicks into overdrive when it finds its owner and surroundings too boring, and so starts looking for some way to burn off its energy and interest. Hyper boxers are capable of chewing into furniture, and are more likely to commit household accidents (sometimes leaving stains just practically anywhere in the house).

While boxers have strong wills, they are also open to obedience training that will help them to reign such a nature, and to keep at bay hyperactivity and restlessness. A really hyperactive dog takes a whole lot of effort and time to train, and only your own patience and perseverance can help manage the dog’s behavior. If you just acquired a boxer puppy and suspect that it is hyper-active, then you will need to train it at a young age before the tendencies grow into potentially more serious issues, like aggression or destructiveness, when the dog is an adult.

If you are ready to visit rescue centers or breeders to look for your future dog, ask for permission in order to spend some time examining and observing the boxer(s). Just by observing how one dog behaves when it is with its littermates, and also when it is alone, you can verify whether the dog is hyperactive or not. The parents of the litter will need scrutinizing as well, in order to be sure about hyperactivity in this line. Eventually, it all comes down to being responsible owners and the use of boxer dog training in order to manage successfully the dog’s imposing size and bursting energy, and in order to take control of any undesirable tendencies.

Does anyone know any good/reliable dog breeders?

I live in Cambridge (south-east of England) and wanted to know if there are any good/reliable dog breeders near by. I’m hoping to get either a cocker spaniel or a golden retriever.

http://www.thecockerspanielclub.co.uk/

These guys may be able to help you! They’ll know the good breeders. Cockers can be vicious and dogs that are bred for temperament will be a priority. Give them a call and have a chat.

We used the Bernese Mountain Dog Club of The United Kingdom to find breeders, so breed clubs are the way to go if you want. :)

As for retrievers, I couldn’t find a site but there will be one somewhere!

Good luck, they’re both awesome dogs.

Adult Female English Mastiff dog door size?

I just bought an english mastiff puppy. We want to buy one of the dog doors that attatch to the sliding glass door. Does anyone have this type of dog and door? IF so can you please let me know what kind you have so I can order one that is big enough for her when she is an adult? Thanks for any help!

I’m not even sure if they make a dog door for a full size English Mastiff, the biggest I’ve seen is for up to 100lbs and your puppy will get much bigger than that

CR=Consciousness Raising
RBG SSTT argues that Afrikans in America are too isolated from each other, and that as a result many problems in African peoples lives are more frequently than not misunderstood as “personal,” or as the results of conflicts between the personalities of individual Black and White people, rather than the systematic forms of oppression we are all subject to as a group. Thus, for our school, Raising Consciousness means helping oneself and helping others to become socio- politically conscious and culturally oriented. More specifically, RBG’z Consciousness Raising EduTainment process aimed to provide the learner with a better overstanding of “what is oppression and what is liberation” by bringing us together in a social education environment to discuss and analyze our lives as a collective (Nation within a Nation) ; without interference from the presence of outsiders.

How To Stop Dog Digging

I want to tell you about a great way I learned to prevent your dog from digging up your yard or garden. I went with my neighbor to run some errands the other day. When we returned to his house about 3 hours later we couldn’t even drive through the gate. My friend”s nutty dogs dug a huge hole over five feet across and at least two feet deep. Because we are living at the beach the digging is pretty easy for the dogs.  This was not the first time this has happened either. Obviously my buddy needed to learn how to stop his dogs from destroying his yard and driveway.

There could be several reasons why your dog may be digging up your yard.  Perhaps your dog is digging because he wants to escape, or maybe just for something to do, or just trying to dig down to some cooler soil below . I’ve got some good tips on how to prevent dogs from digging up their yard or the garden. In my neighbor’s case the dogs dug right in front of the gate, so it was an obvious attempt to escape.  His dogs are not picky where they dig their holes-probably just randomly digging out of boredom. It is also very hot at the beach, so the dogs will also dig up recently watered areas of the yard to get at the cooler soil underneath. Finally my neighbor said enough was enough-let’s put a stop to this.

Following some of the advice I found on solving digging problems in a great dog training book I have, we decided was to build the dogs their own area where they were free to dig without it being a problem. My friend’s yard is all sand, so it was only necessary to enclose the desired area with fencing to make the acceptable digging area. He also was thoughtful enough to his pets to provide shade cloth above for protection from the heat. My friend also treated his dogs to a small wading pool to refresh themselves in as well as some chew toys and some fresh water. He really loves his dogs. He keeps his dogs in their enclosure while away, and they are having a pretty good time, and no longer digging up the yard while he’s gone.

You may not live on a sandy beach lot, but you can still make a suitable area for your digging dog in you own yard. Inside the  area that you have chosen to enclose just put in a sandbox with some loose soil mixed with sand. Inside the enclosed and partially shaded area with the sand box, you can also place some fresh water and some chew toys to play with, so he won’t get bored too much.

Not only have you stopped your dog from digging up your yard in your absence, you now have given him a fun place to be while you are away. You might even be able to let your dog out of his enclosure while you are away without him return to digging up the yard-since he now is used to digging in the special area. However, if he was digging for the escape reason, you should keep him his play area while you are away. Once you’ve provided the special area, you’ve prevented your dog from any further digging in your yard.
