How to paint your pets portrait

This is a tutorial on how to paint your own pet portrait without having a background in art. I myself do pet portraits but went to the Slade School of Fine Art in London England, however I learned some tricks along the way for those who have no clue about drawing or art. Hope you enjoy creating your very own painting of your pet!

Here are the colors I used:

Titanium White
French Ultramarine Blue
Burnt Sienna (a brown)
Burnt Umber (a dark brown)
Alizeran Crimson (a red)
Cadmium Yellow
Cadmium Orange

Other colors that are a good beginners palate:
Cadmium Red
Yellow Ochre

Mars Black (however you can mix black from the primary colors, or create a nice off black by mixing burnt sienna and ultramarine blue) My tip is to never use real black in your painting except in tiny quantities.

If you find that the graphite has dirtied your picture, simply wash it off with soap and water.

If you let the painting dry between layers, or if you blow dry your painting between layers, you will be able to erase any mistakes you make on the top layer with a little warm water and a sponge.

Tip: Change your water constantly so that it is clear. If you mix colors with muddy water you will get a muddy painting

Tip: For fine lines and edges make sure to add a little water for a smoother easier to paint line.

Tip: Dole out the money for the smallest brush sizes, as buying a cheap small sized brush will just cause you heart ache and frustration.

This same method can be used for painting any animal or human portrait.

See you next time!!!!!

Stop Dog Aggression Towards People

Dogs have several types of aggression problems, but dog aggression  directed at people  is the biggest problem of all of these. Any time a dog begins to act out aggressively to humans, it is a warning that your dog may actually be willing to bite someone, perhaps a family member or a guest to your house.

You will need to correct your dogs behavior if you see it displaying aggression towards people. Dogs usually have a reason that has caused they to become aggressive . When it is a case of a dog that is displaying aggression towards people,  the reason is often due to previous physical abuse by its master or someone with access to the dog.

If you know what to look for, the signs of aggression towards people are easy to spot. A dog displaying aggression will be growling and snarling. In addition, it may raise the hackles on his back, bark and even make a lunge while snapping his teeth. At this stage of aggression there is a possibility that the dog will soon bite, unless the situation is defused.

For a dog to become this aggressive towards people, it has usually arrived at the its level of aggression because of some type of negative conditioning. Your dog’s aggression towards people can be reconditioned by using only positive conditioning to  reverse his problem and create a bond of trust and confidence between you and your dog.

Do not let your aggressive dog run loose until you have retrained him not to be aggressive towards people. Be sure to keep your aggressive dog inside an enclosed yard, or if you have no fence, be sure to keep him on a lead so he cannot get loose and possibly attack any passersby.

You can use this training technique to gradually correct your dog’s aggression problem towards people. To get started, bring your dog with you on a visit to a friend of yours-someone who maybe your dog already knows may work best. I recommend that you have the meeting away from your dog’s own territory-this should at least remove his instinctual territorial aggression urges to protect his turf. You should already have put your dog’s leash on before you start the training. The leash gives you the control you will need in case your dog decides to lunge at your friend. If your dog tries to get at your friend, put him straight back into his sit position with a correction and a firm “no”. Remember to stay calm and not start yelling at or hitting your dog for his misbehavior. Doing that will only negatively impact your training efforts, by keeping your dog tense.

You do not want to pet or praise him till he is sitting in a calm and relaxed way. After he has become calm and deserve his rewards you can do praise him and give him a treat. By only praising and rewarding the behaviors you want, you are using positive reinforcement to get the responses form your dog that you want to see. Each time your dog shows some aggression, just repeat this step-over and over, be patient. Through the positive reinforcement your dog not gets, his aggression towards people will eventually be desensitized through repeated exposures to them.

You will want to practice stopping your dog’s aggression towards people often to really establish your dog’s new found ability to be relaxed around other people. Once your dog is relaxed around your friend, you can try the training with different people, until he can meet a new person without getting aggressive.

Until later in his training just introduce him to 1 new person at a time. too many people could make it difficult for your dog to relax. However, after he has met and become comfortable around a variety of individual people you should gradually increase the amount of people he is exposed to in social situations. Of course, you want him to be comfortable around groups of people in every social situation, so he can be part of the family.

If you use these steps your dog’s aggression towards people will be corrected, and he will finally be around people without feeling like someone may abuse him. Once your dog has stopped his aggression towards people, you will find that the both of you are much more relaxed-it is no fun worrying about your dog’s aggression-and whether he might end up biting someone.  Now you can enjoy bringing your dog to social situations, rather than always having to leave him behind.

How To Stop Dogs Whining

Your dog is trying to communicate with you when he whines. Whining is one of the first actions that a dog learns. A hungry puppy will whine to let its mother know that it is hungry. When its mother feeds the puppy the puppy learns that whining produces the desired result.

A puppy will continue to whine when it is distressed or requires attention as it grows into a dog. A puppy that is one of a litter will feel a sense of belonging to that litter. If it becomes separated from its litter it will whine as a sign of its distress and to let the litter know that it needs to be rescued.

It can be extremely distressing for a puppy when it has to leave its litter and its familiar surroundings to become a part of your family. It may whine to communicate its distress and sense of loss.

Now is the time to start training your dog not to whine. If you pay attention to its whining you are reinforcing this action and the dog continues to believe that if it whines it gets the attention it wants. On the other hand it is important that you have taken care of the dog’s needs before you try to stop a dog from whining. Make sure that your dog has food and water and is comfortable and is not trying to communicate to you that he is hungry. Have your dog seen by a vet if it whines when running, eating or gong to the toilet.

You must not neglect your dog and you must spend time with him and play with him. If you spend time with him when he is quiet and not whining it will reinforce good behavior.

Your dog may suffer from separation anxiety one it has adjusted to you and you leave it alone. Separation anxiety in dogs is not uncommon. Dogs are pack animals by nature so remember that when you leave it it may feel quite anxious. If it is your habit to put your dog outside before you go out spend some time with him in the outside environment and make sure he has toys to play with. Soon your dog will understand that he can have fun outside with his toys, too.

Pay attention to your dog’s whines and you’ll begin to understand what he is trying to tell you and why. Perhaps your dog could be trying to let you know that he is hungry or thirsty, hot or cold, bored and lonely or wanting to go outside, or he may be in pain.

Provide your dog with plenty of stimulation and exercise. Your dog is a sociable animal and you should take him for walks, play with him and take him to dog parks so that he can learn to socialize with other dogs. Dogs are intelligent creatures and require stimulation or they can become bored. A dog that is bored may whine for attention.

Tend to your dog’s needs and don’t let him manipulate you with his whining. You will soon learn to recognize the difference between a dog’s genuine needs and his need to get your attention.  Reinforce good dog behavior. Only when the whining has stopped should you show him the love and attention that he deserves, this way he will soon learn that his whines do not produce the results that he wants.

Ways to Stop Dog Barking.

There are plenty of reasons dogs bark. It’s not a dangerous habit, true. It’s actually a communication tool for dogs. However, overly loud barking is annoying. If it goes unattanded, barking can be a serious issue.

The key to undoing your dog’s excessivee barking is understanding what triggers the behavior and dealing with it.Below are useful ways to deal with your dog’s barking problem:

Before that, however, you might want to read Dr. Dog’s Fast Easy Fun Behavior Solutions Review.

1.Regularly feed your dog.Clearly, if they’re either hungry or thirsty, they’d let you know by barking. There’s a unique doggie howl, bark or growl for when they’re hungry.Feeding them on a regular schedule will teach them barking is not needed for food to come.

2.Let your dog get a good hour of exercise each day.Dogs have energy reserves; they must use it up daily.Otherwise, your dog gets uneasy.Whether it’s rain or shine on any given day, let your dog have enough exercise - no exceptions. When the weather outside is not good enough for a day out, be creative with what you can do indoors.

3.Buy your dogs some playthings or another animal for company.Because they’re pack animals, dogs are likely to suffer from separation anxiety if kept to themselves for hours.Keeping him amused or with company effectively de-stresses the dog and keeps him calm.If you’re entertaining a guest with their dog along, don’t let yours see this.Don’t have your dog hear you doing something exciting or interesting.Dogs enjoy fun activities with their masters and would bark to have you know they want to join you.

4.Teach your pet when it’s OK to bark and when it’s not.Your dog must learn to cease barking on command.Dogs can be very territorial. They bark at anything new .Being alerted to strange things or people around your house is a good thing. While that may be true, you don’t need your dog to bark at every person - postman, pizza delivery persons, children.Your dog must learn to recognize threats and bark only at them. Most important of all, teach your dog to respond immediately to a one-word command.

Why Everbody Likes a Well-Behaved Dog.

When your dog knows when to bark and when not to, you’re in good company.Firstly, you won’t have police knocking on your door, responding to neighbor complaints.Secondly, if your dog knows how to effectvely use barking to communicate, you’d know danger even before you see it.Also if your dog is known to bark appropriately, neighbors would know when to investigate. In rare but very possible cases, like when you’ve fallen terribly ill or unconscious, your dog’s bark can attract help.

Our 8mo old puppy seems to have a very short attention span. We take her out on a leash to "potty" and if there is anything or anybody else around, she is distracted and does nothing. It can be a bird, a car, a person, or just sniffing in the wind. She has learned to obey the "sit" and "shake" (offers a paw) commands. Has not learned "down" or "stay". We think she is "ADHD". Any suggestions?

Puppies like babies have short attention span. But you are wise to consider obedience training. Look for trainer who is an animal behaviorist and you should be fine no matter who you choose. Call your local vet office to see if they can recommend one. I would stay away from PetSmart. I’ve seen the way they train and it is not the best.

I got both my dogs trained when they were puppies. I brought them every Saturday for an hour and it was great. I learned a lot. And depending on what kind of dog you have, you may really really need the training. I have 2 miniature schnauzers, which are smart stubborn dogs.

Will they tolerate puppies of another breed? Will they need to be separated after they reach maturity?
Sounds like some humans in the area are in need of some TRAINING.

Thanks to the *knowledgeble* answerers!

Bull Terriers SHOULD be raised with puppies and adult dogs of all breeds and ages. It aids in the socialization process.

Make certain you’ve purchased or adopted a puppy from a reputable breeder who has tested for serious health problems in the breed, and has cleared all of the breeding stock of having these serious conditions.
