Many dogs, today, are being mistreated and trained to be vicious guard dogs. So when you encounter a noble canine, it is enough to make you wonder, just what motivates some modern day dog “heros” we hear about in the news. What heros, you say? This German Shepherd dog really fits the bill
The incident took place on the highways of New York City and show how the German Shepherd is truley a dog that lives up to its iconic past. An unfortunate but familiar situation unfolded. A German Shepherd dog was struck by a car and left injured and helpless. But to the supprise of many who witnessed the scene another German Shepherd approached the injured dog and began to stand guard over his injured friend. Snaping and barking at any who came near, he protected his fellow canine even holding off rescue personell for a short while. After things calmed down a bit, the injured dog was able to be reached and was taken to the vet for medical assistance.
What is it in their make-up that causes them to put their own life in jeopardy? It is their built-in instinct that enabled the German shepherd hero to rush headlong into traffic and loyally stand guard, something missing even in some humans today. We have heard many unusual stories about German shepherds in the past and wonder at their loyal acts in protecting their owners. Some of us have actually experienced watching their loyalty grow as the German shepherd becomes used to his new family.
When we became owners to a very unfriendly German Shepherd, I was a little skeptical at ever letting it near my children or myself. Each day I spoke gently to him whenever I went near his fenced area and especially so when I fed him. Finally the weather was so cold and he looked so pitiful out side that I decided to bring him inside the house. He cautiously stepped just inside the door and lay down beside it. No further. After a few nights spent there by the door, he ventured over to the fireplace when he came inside. I felt better and so each night we all said good night and left him by the dying embers. One night when we went upstairs, Fonzie (I know) went with us as far as the stairs and slept there. I gave it no thought when, another night or so, he slept on the landing where the stairs turned. Nor did I give much thought to his move to the top of the stairs a few nights later, nor the move to outside my door. It was a few nights later when he scratched on my door and I let him inside and he promptly lay down beside my bed. It was then that I realized I’d been duped. Never under-estimate the intelligence of a German Shepherd and never let it go to waist. A good [German Shepherd training program|Learning how to train a German Shepherd] can mean the difference between a great dog and a disaster.

Looking for the best dog training online? Are you having hard time house training or taking care of your Shiba Inu dog or any other dog for that matter? Chances are, you’re annoyed up to your neck the way your Shiba Inu behaves, that is, if you haven’t had the best training that you have given to your pet. As everybody knows, Shiba dogs especially Shiba Inu puppies are cute and adorable pets but they can be annoying as they try to turn your house into one smelly dog hole and would bark endlessly even for no reason at all. Here’s the worst part, next-door neighbors would complain about the noise especially when you’re not around. These dogs suffer from separation anxiety and it would take a good training to keep them disciplined. When dogs experience this classification of discomfort, they will go slightly uneasy and would try to look for someplace or somebody that they can be familiar with and neighbors will go uneasy, too. You have to be aware that it’s really very important to make your Shiba undergo training, not only for personal or health purpose, but to follow the law as well. Every state has its law regarding dogs that are not trained. That’s why, Shiba Inu breeders are also doubling as trainers to help owners train their dog or make them enroll at a dog obedience school.
But the fact of the matter is, it’s not that easy to train a dog, like, hiring somebody to do that job. It could be very costly. However, a dog owner can also learn how to train his own pet on his own and all he needs is a kind of book guide to learn all the ropes in dog training. For a Shiba owner, it is essential to find the right Shiba Inu care and training guide that he can learn easily. Training his own Shiba can also create stronger bonding and relationship between him and his pet. Luckily, there are many book guides for such purposes that are now flooding the Internet Highway today.
I'm getting a Pomeranian puppy next weekend and I'd like to have her trained right away so that she can learn early. I went to the Petsmart website but it doesn't say anything about the price. I was going to call, but i figured why not ask here.
haha. Any help or even tips would be appreciated.
I use to be a PetSmart trainer and its going to depend on the area where you live. Here in Texas where I am we charge $109 for 8 weeks. In California is it more. That is why you won't see prices on their website. When I first started training with them, the prices were $29 for puppy for 6 weeks, $39 for Basic. This was 11 years ago. Prices of the training has gone way up, but the training of the instructors is lots better too.
I'm about to bring home 2 puppies about 4-5 weeks old will it be more difficult to raise, and train them together?
Don't bring EITHER of them home. In the UK and most States in the USA it is ILLEGAL to remove puppies from their mother before 8 weeks of age. No rescue would allow this either.
It is also not advisable to get two puppies at the same age. They tend to bond with each other instead of bonding with their owner. Also, if you get puppies at 4 weeks old, they wont know how to behave as dogs. They learn LOADS socialization and behaviour wise in the 8 weeks they need to be with their mother and siblings. Taking them away at 4 weeks (they wont even be weaned properly until 6 weeks!!) will cause unwanted behaviours and socialization problems.
Don't do it. Leave the puppies until they are 8 weeks old. If you take them before that time, you're a terrible person and shouldn't have dogs period! They need this time with their mother and siblings, please!
I am planning on getting a dog, but I’ve never had one before and I don’t know the first thing about training. I want to train it so it doesn’t end up like my cousin’s dog who jumps all over people and barks at everything. I want my dog to be my buddy so please hook me up with some sort of DVD to give me the basics of training my new dog right.
Cesar Millan has several videos on being the pack leader which is a good place to start. Sign up for obedience classes when you get your puppy, read all you can on your breed of dog so you know what to expect. There are a ton of books on training i.e. “Dog tricks for Dummies”
Being your dogs pack leader is the first place to start, dogs don’t respect you if you aren’t their leader. giving your dogs rules, boundaries and limitations, not allowing them to do anything they want, giving the dog structure and a strict schedule helps also. But definitely training classes that way you have hands on experience with a professional trainer who can correct you as you go along is the best place to start.
If your cousins dog jumps all over people then he has obviously learned that jumping gets him attention, even negative attention (down, off, go away) is attention. Remember reward the behavior you want (treats or praise) and ignore the behavior you don’t want. Always give affection or attention at the right time will make your dog associate the good behavior with the affection, giving affection at the wrong time can make your dog associate it with bad behavior.
Remember whatever behavior gets them attention they will repeat so understand when to give attention and affection and learn when not to.
Watch “The Dog Whisperer” on Friday nights on the National Geographic channel and “It’s Me or The dog” on Animal Planet, both excellent trainers will show you how to train and correct problem behavior as it arises.
Good luck to you start BEFORE you get the dog that way you are prepared to handle whatever problems come along.
